Your Day-to-Day:

    • The ability to carry out effective requirement capture from customer enquiries and technical specifications such that you are able to develop concept designs;

    • Perform preliminary engineering calculations;

    • Produce and review detailed drawings & bills of materials;

    • Specify or evaluate appropriate purchased components;

    • Prepare written technical description, reports and other technical documents;

    • Review of designs and drawings for accuracy, material selection, manufacturability;

    • Knowledge of material properties and the behavior of materials and structures under multiple load combinations

 

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

 

    • You will possess a post-secondary education Diploma or Degree from a recognized Mechanical Engineering Technical Program, or have equivalent knowledge and experience in good academic standing

    • As a minimum you will be a Design Technologist with at least 5 to 10 years practical experience in the field of mechanical design

    • This is a challenging position that will require a solid technical background and as you will be working as part of a team, strong interpersonal and communication abilities including literacy skills are essential. You will possess problem solving skills plus a creative yet methodical approach.

 

Experience in the following areas is expected:

    • Proficient in the use of 3D solid modelling and 2D drafting using Inventor software and proficient in the creation of technical documents and specifications;

    • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and representation of those on drawings and design documents including welding symbols and notations;

    • A thorough knowledge of drafting principles and standards to enable checking and verification of design drawings for compliance to applicable specifications

 

Experience in the following would be advantageous:

    • Special purpose machinery and tool design for nuclear applications, knowledge of electrical device usage and control systems;

    • Ability to interpret and apply GD&T;

    • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics systems;

    • Welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques such as radiography, NDT or NDE;

    • Preparation of proposals and project management of complex design programs;

    • Capability to perform calculations to support design optimization and some exposure or working knowledge of FEA;

    • Working knowledge of the principles of fluid flow and heat transfer; experience in design and manufacturing of products for the nuclear market
