The Project Manager will engage on a vast set of nuclear power plant design topics in support to Westinghouse International new build market development and capture.
The International AP1000 Project Engineering department missions are:
- The management of Global Engineering Services scope for programs aiming at improving the International marketability and the delivery of AP1000 projects worldwide
- The lead and integration of Global Engineering Services scope in support of new build market development, early works and FEED contracts (up to the establishment of a project-specific org)
- The development of International Project Engineering resources in support of future new build projects (up to the establishment of a project-specific org)
- The integration of Global Engineering Services input in support of new build offers
The International AP1000 Project Engineering department includes two groups, one US-based and one Europe-based, the EMEA New Plants Engineering group. The two groups, together with the other leaders of the department, work jointly to deliver the missions of the department.
Your Day-to-Day:
Responsible for all project management processes on moderate complexity projects, a portfolio of lower complexity projects or a portion (for example, work package) of a high complexity project/program. Lead medium-sized team (average 10–30 team members), which may include project controls and sub-project managers. Support proposal process for moderate complexity projects, as assigned. May be assigned overall Project Manager responsibility of a high complexity project (with direct guidance of a Program Manager or higher).
Project initiating and planning: Complete all aspects of initiating and planning processes including authoring charters and project management plans which include developing scope, schedule, and cost baselines as well as, risk and stakeholder registers. Apply tools and techniques to plan work such that inefficiencies are reduced and overall project performance is optimized. Apply schedule and risk analytics to confirm validity of plan. Identify risks and mitigating actions for plans with success constraints.
Project executing, monitoring, and controlling:
Manage overall project performance to meet quality, schedule and financial goals as set forth by Westinghouse, customer and regulatory requirements. Follow department protocols for acquiring team members to complete the work. Manage all aspects of project including scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, quality, resources, communications, and stakeholders through use of delegates/support as applicable. Interpret and transmit project/contract requirements, and subsequent changes, to functional groups following an integrated change management process. Prepare or oversee project cost expenditure forecasts and progress evaluations/projections (including earned value management) to support project performance and financial reporting requirements. Review project expenditures for compliance with project baselines and scope. Promote teamwork and effective communication, including issuing and maintenance of project progress metrics to ensure team, customer, and all stakeholders are kept informed of project status. Develop or oversee project records in standard databases, systems, and procedures to ensure efficient handling and transmission of project correspondence and documentation internally and externally.
Project closing: Properly close project by archiving work in financial, scheduling, document management, and resource management systems/tools. Perform final project quality assessment and report out. Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, lessons learned, and risk avoidance for future work.
Develop positive relationships with cross-functional/product line team, customer, suppliers, and other stakeholders to drive project to successful completion
Seek opportunities and implement continuous improvements to enhance project performance
Problem Solving:
*Recognize emerging critical technical or regulatory issues that would affect project delivery. Raise awareness and develop a recovery plan.
* Coordinate appropriate personnel (subject matter experts, customer, supplier, etc.) to solve complex technical, quality, schedule, risk, and cost issues quickly and effectively.
* Understand how to navigate the internal and customer organization structures for proper elevation of problem resolution beyond level of control.
* Identify and resolve team priority constraints, skill limitations, and personnel issues that may impede project success.
Decision Making:
* Coordinate appropriate personnel (subject matter experts, customer, supplier, etc.) to make complex decisions related to technical, quality, schedule, risk, and cost issues quickly and effectively.
* Manage assignments and priorities of team members across multiple projects simultaneously and effectively to drive project to completion according to schedule.
Influence:
* Ensure that project activities are completed on time to meet customer needs and produce maximum profit for Westinghouse. Communicate poor performance concerns to appropriate management quickly.
* Resolve conflicts involving interpretation of contract provisions with customer.
* Fully understand project scope and objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the team.
* Build consultative relationships with Project Managers, team members, stakeholders, and internal or external customers.
* Be able to drive commitment to completion of tasks as assigned to matrixed team members. Cultivate an open, honest team environment within which team members can freely express project concerns.
* Escalate issues appropriately to supervisory Program Manager or other management.
* Identify product up-sales and other sales opportunities through interactions with customer. Understand the various products/services within area of assignment and how specific project assignments impact the overall business vision and objectives.
Revenue/financial impact Expected to manage projects with a moderate complexity designation, typically in the range of $5M to $30M in cost, commensurate with proven experience. May be assigned multiple projects of lesser value/complexity simultaneously.
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree. Applicable disciplines are software engineering (preferred), project management, general engineering, Business, or related technical discipline. Advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as project manager leading and directing Tier 3 or Tier 2 projects to successful completion. 3 years in technical/engineering role and 3 years as project manager may be considered as equivalent.
- Preferred: 6 -10 years of experience as project manager in a technical industry such as engineering, manufacturing, nuclear or construction
- Significant experience as project manager leading and directing software development projects to successful completion. A mix of experience in a technical/engineering lead role and as project manager may be considered as equivalent. Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and solve complex problems. Proven ability to analyze information for complex decision making.
- Experience executing both Waterfall and Agile software development methodologies preferred.
- Experience in nuclear or another highly-regulated industry preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge.
- Achievement of PMP credential or equivalent
- Advanced interpersonal skills such as effective verbal and written communications; ability to lead and direct complex team structures; ability to develop relationships with stakeholders in upper management positions; and ability to analyze problems, establish facts, and make complex decisions with little to no supervision.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft® Office tools. Strong working knowledge in project schedule, cost and risk management processes and associated tools (e.g., Primavera, SAP, Active Risk Manager, or other related tools).
- Advanced ability or understanding of the transformation of data to information for visual reports, database concepts in order to manage data within systems, and the interaction of company functions that are touch points to projects (Finance, Legal, Quality, Supply Chain, etc.). High-quality presentation skills.
