Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Peterborough, Canada 


Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada.  As a part of our growing team, the successful candidate will be responsible for design of mechanical equipment, process piping systems, Finite Element Analysis as well as support the execution of projects in our extensive manufacturing operation. 


Your day to day:
•    Providing technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team  
•    Providing input and/or oversight to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
•    Preparing clear and concise design reports and technical specifications.
•    Performing design-by-analysis using finite element software such as ANSYS & CAESAR.
•    Performing hand calculations and applying design-by-rule formulae. 
•    Performing Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. 
•    Supporting the manufacture of components, the resolution of manufacturing queries and assessment of non-conformances. 

Who you are:

•    Licensed P.Eng. member of Professional Engineers Ontario (Mechanical Engineering)
•    10+ years of relevant experience
•    Extensive experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes. 
•    Experience in the substantiation of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems and radiological shielded containers.
•    Extensive experience with FEA using software such as ANSYS & CAESAR.
•    Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques. 
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
•    Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
•    Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment.
•    Experience interfacing with customer representatives and also providing oversight of vendors. 
•    Experience with technical project management
•    Knowledge and experience working to nuclear quality assurance programs that meet the requirements of CAN/CSA-N285.0 or NQA-1.
This is a challenging position that will require a solid technical background.  Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are essential to be successful in our team-based environment.  You will possess problem solving skills and a creative yet methodical approach.

Consideration may be given to applicants that meet the criteria for future licensure as a Professional Engineer through possession of the necessary qualifications and experience.
