Director of Special Projects - AI

About the role:

This position is a contract for approximately 6 to 8 months.

As the Senior Director of Special Projects for the AI Team, you will be an acting interim leader of the AI Team.

You will work remote 3 weeks of the month. You will be required to travel to the Westinghouse headquarters in Cranberry Township, PA or to our Westinghouse Madrid, Spain the 1 week of the month.

You will report to the Director of Operations and office to the CTO.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Senior Director of Special Projects for the AI Team with your key responsibilities as follows:

• Deliver against the AI team OKRs
• Develop team capabilities and competencies
• Lead delivery of ~20 AI solutions by the end of Q3
• Validate the make-vs-buy strategy for AI solutions
• Plan team upskilling and resource needs
• Prepare a transition plan for the permanent candidate.
• 25% Travel required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, Data Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Electrical/Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software/AI product development
• 5+ years of experience leading teams (AI/ML, software, UX, and QA).
• Hands-on familiarity with:
  • AI agents/orchestration frameworks, LLMs, traditional ML, reinforcement learning.
  • Modern application stacks (microservices, REST/GraphQL), and front-end frameworks (React/Angular/Vue).
  • CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability/telemetry (logs, metrics, traces).
• Experience running simulation or test labs, or large-scale staging environments.
• Demonstrated track record in security-conscious environments (policy, identity and access, data protection)
• You will successfully pass the stringent background and preemployment drug screen.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $125/hour to $132/hour.
