Opportunity Overview

Junior Radiation Protection Technician (CONTRACT – 18 + months)


We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Radiation Protection Technician at our Waltz Mill site in Madison, PA!  As a Junior Radiation Protection Technician, you will support the implementation of the radiation protection program. Work includes surveillance of radiological work areas, radioactive material and waste management, data/records management and radiological sample collection/analysis.


What your day-to-day looks like:

  • Perform radiation control work activities in support of maintenance, decontamination and compliance operations under the supervision of senior personnel.
  • Use instrumentation to perform radiological surveys of work areas and generate associated documents.
  • Conduct and/or support assessments of radiological conditions in controlled areas.
  • Respond to radiological incidents, contamination events, radiological emergencies and participate in corrective action activities under the supervision of senior personnel.
  • Establish and maintain radiological control points, stock radiological supplies, handle radioactive materials and radiological protective equipment.
  • Provide radiological support during preparation, packaging, and shipment/transfer of radioactive materials and wastes.


What we need to see from you:               

  • High school education, preferably a combination of education and experience in the field of radiation work, radiation protection or health physics.
  • Experience with using and interpreting electronic instrumentation and the ability to learn radiation measurement instrumentation.
  • The ability to learn basic radiological safety and contamination control techniques.
  • The ability to work shifts and overtime as required.
  • The ability to pass background screening, drug test and be deemed trustworthy and reliable.
  • The ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a radiation protection team, given broad and general program/project directions.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including routinely lift and transport of 40 pounds, frequently bend and stoop, stand and walk for 4-6 hours per day.
  • Successfully pass a routine medical examination as well as successfully pass applicable training including Respirator Fit Testing.
  • Be able to maintain a valid driver’s license.
