Survey Crew Chief - Utility Infrastructure Projects

About the role:

Minneapolis, MN

We are looking for an experienced Survey Crew Chief to support utility infrastructure projects involving electric distribution, gas, electric transmission, and substation facilities. You will be field-based and conduct a variety of land surveying activities, including topographic surveys, construction staking, and data collection using advanced surveying technologies.

The Survey Crew Chief will work independently in the field. Using company-provided GPS equipment, laser scanners, and Trimble survey systems, the Chief will gather accurate survey data. This data supports the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of critical utility infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform topographic, construction, boundary, and utility-related land surveys.
• Operate GPS survey equipment, laser scanners, and Trimble data collectors.
• Collect, process, and document survey data for engineering and construction projects.
• Travel to project sites and independently complete assigned survey tasks.
• Support electric distribution, gas, transmission, and substation projects across multiple locations.
• Ensure survey work meets company standards, project requirements, and safety regulations.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, and survey team members.
• Maintain surveying equipment and ensure calibration and operation.
• Complete field documentation and provide accurate deliverables to project teams.

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of land surveying experience.
• Experience operating survey-grade GPS equipment.
• Experience using laser scanning technology.
• Proficiency with Trimble survey equipment and data collectors.
• Computer and technology skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently.
• Work outdoors in different weather and field conditions.
• Experience with surveying principles, procedures, and field practices.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $45.00/hour to $50.00/hour.
