Opportunity Overview:

Electrical Journeyworker position based in Los Angeles, CA. This is a 1-year contract assignment. (W-2) You will be responsible for rail cars troubleshoots the electrical and electronic systems on passenger and freight trains, including components like motors, control systems, lighting, and air conditioning. You will report to the onsite manager.

Your responsibilities involve performing maintenance and repairs, interpreting schematics, installing new equipment, using diagnostic tools, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

You will be critical for maintaining the safety and functionality of the entire rail vehicle.

Repair and installation on rail cars according to engineering instructions

Disassembly and reassembly of rail car components and devices Information gathering such as photos, measurements (using multimeter, megger)

 

 

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Inspection and maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of electrical components such as motors, wiring, circuit breakers, and lighting to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Troubleshoot and repair: Diagnose and repair electrical faults, wiring issues, and malfunctioning components using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
  • System work:
  • Work on complex systems like the Positive Train Control (PTC) system, control circuits, and electronic communication systems.
  • Installation and modification: Install new electrical systems and components, and perform authorized modifications to existing equipment based on schematics and blueprints.
  • Documentation: document all repair activities following safety and compliance standards.
  • Safety compliance: Ensure all work is performed safely and meets all relevant regulations, such as those from the FRA.

 

Who you are:

• Use your knowledge of electrical and electronic systems specific to rail cars

• Must have the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints

• Must have experience with a variety of hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment

• Must work on large equipment, sometimes involving lifting heavy components
