We are currently hiring a Renewables Fleet Manager on our Americas Outage and Maintenance Services team. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day fleet coordination and logistics responsible for selecting the right vehicles and maintaining them in good operating condition so that the company can meet its objectives efficiently and cost-effectively. This is a remote opportunity, eligible for work anywhere in the United States.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure a strong commitment to safety as the number one core value.
  • Ensure that the field teams effectively execute all work in a safe and productive manner, in accordance with the quality standards of both the customer and BHI Energy
  • Develop and support programs to promote and improve safe vehicle and field operations..
  • Set and reinforce standards and expectations for the organization that exemplify the core values and standards of BHI and the industry by providing leadership and direction to fleet  operators and staff using independent judgment and discretion. 
  • Work with authorized dealers, contractors, and vendors to secure best value for both short- and long-term rental of equipment and vehicles. 
  • Work to minimize number of trucks by placing multiple technicians in vehicles where possible.
  • Optimize vehicle selection (car, SUV, 1/2T PU, 3/4T PU…) and Long Term vs. Short Term contract status.
  • Support development and implement preventative maintenance program for the entire fleet.
  • Support infrastructure and process to monitor vehicle movements, gas card use, and maintenance implementations.
  • Ensure contract requirements are fully understood, obligations, and commitments in order to fairly implement the business.
  • Ensure effective project and contract management governance, procedures, tools and financial controls are established and maintained for the Renewables organization.
  • Provide oversight to ensure all necessary planning tools/elements are in place and being implemented to support the organization.
  • Oversee the performance monitoring structure and reporting including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and KPIs that give insight into performance.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of procedures, protocols and processes in an effort to identify improvement opportunities that will benefit BHI Energy and our client.
  • Interface directly with senior client/company leaders (presentations or one-on-one).
  • Set positive standards and expectations with identified supervisors and within all BHI employees assigned.
  • Maintain departmental compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure departmental adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Schedule, route, maintain, and track transport vehicles.
  • Implement and enforce transportation scheduling and policy changes.
  • Install a culture of continuous improvement and error free performance with all employees assigned.
  • Support the operational budget focused on establishing cost savings and effectiveness.
  • Remain visible, available and approachable to BHI Energy employees supporting assigned operational area.
  • Support and foster a safety conscious work environment where all employees understand reporting options and opportunities for safety and work related concerns.
  • Communicate with Managers and Supervisors frequently to understand operational challenges and support requirements to ensure success within the group.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills: A fleet manager is a skilled negotiator, an active listener, and an agile speaker and writer where vendors and all levels of employees are concerned. They report to a few, collaborate with some, oversee others, and negotiate deals with suppliers.
  • Computer and software skills: In addition to email, instant messaging, spreadsheet, and word processing apps, they are familiar with fleet-specific programs like route navigation software and logistics and supply chain software.
  • Finance and accounting literacy: A fleet manager needs to understand how to read a balance sheet and how to establish a departmental and fleet budget.
  • Ability to supervise staff: Whether they're in charge of a transportation segment or transportation is the company's core business, they supervise and critique the work of other employees with respect to fleet.
  • Understanding of what's under the hood: A fleet manager needs to understand vehicle systems, mechanics, and technology sufficiently to authorize repairs and accurately evaluate the work of employees involved in maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations: They are well-versed in the environmental and safety laws, regulations, and rules that are relevant to their department.

Who You Are:

  • An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred) OR five (5) additional years of relevant work experience equivalent experience for a total of 10 years of work experience.  Ideally will have 2-3 years of experience as a lead or supervisor.
  • Proven experience with controlling costs, predicting risk and developing mitigation strategies. 
  • Experience with telematics and GPS systems that allow continuously monitor driver behavior, and vehicle locations.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, scheduling to keep fleet in peak operating condition and minimize downtime.
