Our global manufacturing business is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer for its Specialty Metals Plant (SMP) located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. The employees of SMP manufacture zirconium-alloy tubing products used in nuclear fuel assemblies for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel, our licensees, and other customers worldwide. At our facility, we use state-of-the-art manufacturing and inspection systems to meet the exacting standards and demanding tolerances required by our customers.

 

In this position, a Senior Quality Engineer can expect to be responsible for the following:

  • Implement quality programs and systems, including qualification and deployment of inspection and test techniques and the management of associated quality data and records, in compliance with Business Unit Quality policies, industry and regulatory standards, and customer requirements.  This will include supervisory responsibility for personnel conducting testing and records review.
  • Identify and resolve product and program quality issues, including the final disposition of product and quality records, and review of product certification and customer-required documentation.
  • Review design and process engineering documentation to verify manufacturability and compliance to customer and quality requirements. Interface with appropriate engineering personnel to resolve implementation concerns.
  • Identify deviations that could create safety or quality hazards or cause malfunctions.  Apply quality control, statistical and problem solving techniques and work with cognizant personnel to identify and implement corrective actions and rate performance and effectiveness of plant programs.
  • Assist in the management of corrective action system and implementation of various performance improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate and integrate complex projects which encompass multi-functional areas.  Monitor progress and direct teams to successfully achieve established budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Participate in assessments of operations and identify opportunities for performance improvement through internal quality assessments, environmental/health & safety reviews, process oversights, etc.  Recommend and influence operations to take appropriate corrective actions based on assessments. 
  • Communicate changes in Quality policies and systems.  Develop and conduct educational and training programs.
  • Provide appropriate personnel with periodic updates and recommendations regarding nature and status of work.
  • Interface with customer and regulatory personnel conducting audit or surveillance visits of the facility.
  • Assists department manager with the planning, coordination, development and administration of programs and projects.
  • Effectively interface with union representatives to establish and maintain a working relationship which promotes the efficient production of material.


The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • BS  in Engineering or related technical discipline required. 
  • 5+ years of quality assurance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.  Nuclear quality experience preferred.
  • Previous experience leading a lab testing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry standards of quality, such as, ASTM testing standards, ISO-9001, Six Sigma, ANSI/ASME NQA-1, Supplements and Appendices, and U.S. NRC Regulatory Guide series. 
  • Project management skills to effectively define, implement and co-ordinate projects to completion.
  • Proficient in various problem solving and causal analysis techniques.
  • Effective in written and oral communication. Listening skills, as well as the ability to articulate technical basis for decisions is critical.
