Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor at the Specialty Metals Plant (SMP) located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. The incumbent must be available to work all shifts. The employees of SMP manufacture zirconium-alloy tubing products used in nuclear fuel assemblies for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel, our licensees, and other customers worldwide.

 

In this position, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the maintenance crafts on third shift.  This position reports directly to the site Maintenance Manager.  This position will work with other professionals in order to improve production facilities, reduce the incidence of costly breakdowns and develop strategies to improve overall reliability and safety of the plant, personnel and production processes.  This position is expected to analyze and resolve electrical, instrumentation, controls, logic and mechanical issues on production equipment.

 

Major job responsibilities:

  • Safety:  Continual review, enforcement, and enhancement of worker safety via floor level observations, procedure adherence, and use of Human Performance Tools.
  • Recordkeeping:  Building and maintenance of yearly craft vacation schedules and daily time keeping and approval. 
  • Training:  Developing and enhancing employee skill-sets through in-house training and / or recommended specialized training.
  • Troubleshooting: Continuous running of equipment and machinery, identifying a problem, deduce its causes in the shortest time possible and put measures in place to prevent the problem from recurring.
  • Designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods.
  • Controlling maintenance tools, stores, and equipment.
  • Writing maintenance strategies to help with installation, commissioning and troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Dealing with emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs.
  • Carrying out quality and efficiency inspections on jobs.
  • Carrying out routine scheduled maintenance work and reviewing completed work for expected outcome.
  • Arranging procurement of emergent parts needs.
  • Monitoring, controlling, and improving maintenance costs.
  • Schedule daily work activities for maintenance crafts to ensure coverage of the machinery and equipment in case of breakdown.
  • Working with specialized equipment such as PLC’s, Servo’s and VFD’s which control machinery on factory assembly lines.
  • Project manage equipment installations, shutdowns, and maintenance rebuilds.
  • Plan, organize, assign, direct, and monitor assigned personnel.
  • Establish working relationships with union leadership to insure a cooperative environment.

 

 

*Minimum Requirements

 

A successful candidate will have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related field with a Bachelor’s Degree preferred with five or more years directly related experience in a manufacturing environment.  Candidate must also be familiar with and/or have experience with the following: experience with AC and DC drives and motors, servo drives, instrumentation and controls, ability to read, interpret and update electrical drawings, familiarity with PLC ladder logic and hardware configuration, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles and strong verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to ensure multiple assignments are completed properly and on time and be able to effectively multi-task and handle changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities. Experience supervising in a union environment is a plus.  Proficient use of Microsoft Office is required and experience with a computerized maintenance management system is preferred.
