We are looking for a qualified Principal Radiation Protection Technician to work at our Brattleboro, VT site. As a Senior Radiation Protection / Health Physics Technician, you are responsible for evaluating radiological conditions in a workplace environment and implementing controls necessary to maintain radiation exposures to workers and the public as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). This position requires excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills. Senior Technicians must have experience working in the Nuclear Power industry or DOE and must have the ability to pass necessary Westinghouse background checks.  The ability to obtain unescorted access to nuclear power plants is optional but desired.  

 

Your Day to Day:

 

  • Ensure compliance and possess knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies on a federal, state, municipal, and company level.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Westinghouse policies, procedures, specifications, human performance and safety standards and expectations.
  • Use a series of protocols and technology to monitor radiological conditions, record conditions, and evaluate the conditions with regard to the potential risk to workers and the public.
  • Oversee all work activities performed on site involving radioactive materials.
  • Utilize special instrumentation to analyze, track, and survey radioactive materials, dose rates, airborne particulates, and radiological controls.
  • Establish safe means and testing cycles of radioactive material, including collection, storage, packaging, transportation, and disposal.
  • Perform release surveys of materials, equipment and property from areas controlled for radiological purposes to uncontrolled areas.
  • Collect and analyze radiological samples.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for Radiation Protection.
  • Conduct and/or support assessments, audits and other measures needed regarding radiological incidents. Respond to contaminated personnel/areas and other radiological incidents and emergencies and participate in corrective action.
  • IMMEDIATELY notify supervision and prepare documentation for ANY safety or nuclear safety concerns
  • Responsible for progress of all assigned work; identify and solve minor issues; and report major issues to Supervision for resolution.
  • Evaluate radiological conditions in the facility and implement the necessary radiological safety measures as they apply to licensed facility workers and members of the general public.
  • Perform dose rate, contamination and airborne radioactivity surveys.
  • Provide job coverage for work groups to minimize personnel exposure.
  • Control access to radioactive material through labeling and posting.
  • Provide briefings and guidance to facility personnel to prohibit unplanned exposure to radioactive material.

 

Who You Are:

 

  • High School Diploma minimum required with minimum 15 years’ work experience in Radiation Protection. 4 Year or 2 Year degree preferred.

 

  • Educational background should be in related fields of study to include (but not limited to) chemistry and Mathematics courses, and candidates shall:
  • Possess the ability to pass knowledge exams and performance evaluations such as would be required for DOT Transportation duties

 

  • Must meet the requirements of one of the following standards - (ANSI N18.1-1971; ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978; ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993; or ANSI/ANS 3.1-2014)

 

Additional Competencies:

 

  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
  • Should be familiar with enterprise software programs such as SAP.
  • Possess strong Leadership, Teambuilding and Communication skills.
