Senior Systems Engineer – Burlington, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

 

About the Opportunity

 

Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom, first of a kind equipment, process systems and engineering services for the nuclear industry, globally.  We offer complete design services from specification to execution.  As part of our growing team, the successful candidate will be responsible, for the design of mechanical systems and/or components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.

 

What will you do?

Your day to day: 

 

  • Interface with customers and outside vendors on issues and decisions surrounding the project execution
  • Research and analyze customer requests, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications in support of developing high quality proposals
  • Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in the customer facilities
  • Providing input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process
  • Performing classical hand calculations to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
  • Preparing clear and concise design reports and technical specifications
  • Driving innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
  • Confer with senior engineers and other personnel to develop procedures, resolve project issues, and provide technical information to customers and vendors
  • Develop project documentation in accordance with the Westinghouse Quality Assurance Manual (QAM)
  • Develop component specifications and purchasing requests in compliance with the Westinghouse QAM
  • Support assembly and oversee the assembly of developed systems
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Collaborating globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
  • Supporting resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems and/or components


 

What will you bring?

Who you are: 

 

  • 5+ years of related engineering experience
  • P. Eng. In the province of Ontario
  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail

 

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a quality program that meets the requirements of CSA N299.1
  • Extensive experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques.
  • Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment.
  • Experience interfacing with customer representatives and also providing oversight of vendors.
