Your Day-to-Day:

  • Creating engineering designs and standards for transmission line projects that include wood and steel structures and structure foundations, line plan and profile, wire arrangements, field reports, transmission switch drawings and wire sag charts.
  • Prepare construction documents including plan and profile drawings, structure loading trees, and foundation and assembly drawings for high voltage transmission lines
  • Preliminary design and budgetary estimates including planning and design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, etc.
  • Providing engineering support and mentorship to employees to assist in their learning of transmission line standards, procedures, designs and associated issues.
  • Provide field support during construction as required.
  • Assist in developing project schedules considering all aspects of the design process
  • Produce Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems
  • Perform or review engineering and design tasks requiring operation of available computer assisted software and/or equipment that increments work productivity and accuracy 
  • Review drawings, calculations, specifications and other engineering documentation for compliance with contract requirements, good engineering practices, codes, and standards 
  • Assist in drafting of structural drawings under direction from Technical Lead on various structural portion of the projects 
  • Provide assistance with the creation and submission of structural drawings, technical reports, memos, specifications and calculations. Will also assist in preparing final construction documents and reports. 


Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Civil / Structural Engineering or directly related Engineering Degree. 
  • 2-5 plus years of relevant transmission line or general structural engineering experience.
  • must be knowledgeable in transmission line design philosophies, constructability of the transmission lines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Relevant experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-TOWER, and AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Perform analysis for various steel/composite structures, including member checks and connection designs
  • Experience using MathCAD, GT-Strudl and/or ANSYS for structural analysis and design
  • Functional understanding of AISC “Specification for Structural Steel Buildings”, ACI 318-14 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete”, and ASCE/SEI 7 “Minimum Design Loads for buildings and Other Structures”, ASCE/SEI 10 “Design of Latticed Steel Transmission Structures”, and ASCE/SEI 48 “Design of Steel Transmission Pole Structures”
  • Functional understanding of NESC, EIA-TIA, CSA, and GO95 Codes
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures Excellent verbal and communications skills are required 
  • Excellent technical writing skill is required 
  • Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred
