We currently have an opportunity for an experienced nuclear regulatory legal practitioner!  The Senior Nuclear Regulatory Counsel provides comprehensive, high-quality, timely, and practical advice on nuclear regulatory matters to internal clients throughout the Westinghouse enterprise, particularly in the US, but also globally.  The Senior Nuclear Regulatory Counsel represents Westinghouse on such matters and is the strategic legal partner to the global Westinghouse Nuclear Regulatory Affairs organization.  This is a US ONLY remote role.


Your Day to Day:

  • Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed advice and counsel to internal clients on the comprehensive scope of legal issues involving nuclear law and regulation, primarily in the United States.  Areas of expertise include special nuclear materials licensing; new and advanced reactor licensing; Part 21 compliance; employee protection, Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) and nuclear safety culture; Agreement State licensing; decommissioning funding; protection of proprietary information, and nuclear export controls.
  • Work with internal clients to respond to allegations, investigations, and enforcement actions.  Represent the company before administrative agencies such as the NRC, Department of Energy, and DOL/OSHA, and in NRC-sponsored mediations. 
  • Develop and implement policies and programs and conduct training on regulatory-related topics such as nuclear safety culture, safety conscious work environment and nuclear regulatory compliance for all segments of the employee population.
  • Work closely with the Employee Concerns Program and the Global Ethics and Compliance organization on internal investigations, including directing and conducting such investigations and providing advice to management.
  • Work closely with outside counsel to ensure efficient representation of Westinghouse in nuclear regulatory-related matters.
  • Supervise and manage outside counsel, including review of invoices. 
  • Remain current on all aspects of nuclear regulatory law and provide updates to clients as warranted.
  • Advise the Global Ethics and Compliance organization on other regulatory compliance matters, including trade compliance, ethics and antitrust matters.


Who You Are:

  • Juris Doctor
  • Minimum 5 years of experience practicing Nuclear Regulatory law in the United States. Successful candidate will have expertise in providing legal advice regarding the Atomic Energy Act, Energy Reorganization Act, and NRC regulations, and will also have experience in internal investigations, and in representing clients before the NRC and in government investigations.
  • Admission to bar in US jurisdiction
