Associate Issue Manager
Cranberry Township, US
Are you interested in being part of an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions? At Westinghouse, we recognize that our employees are our most valuable asset and we seek to identify, attract and recruit the most qualified talent while recognizing and encouraging the value of diversity in the global workplace.
As an Associate Issue Manager, you will join a newly established team within the Long-Term Operations (LTO) Strategic Project Management Office (SPMO). Reporting to the Senior Project Issue Manager, you will support both the broader LTO project management community and internal strategic initiatives. Your contributions will directly influence project outcomes, customer satisfaction, and the development of future project management capabilities.
This role is tailored for early-career engineers, with 2–4 years of experience, with little to no prior experience in project management who are seeking a meaningful entry point into project management or exploring a pathway toward business leadership. As a visible position within the organization, you will gain exposure to senior leaders across the LTO organization. Additionally, you will contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the Project Issue Management Team and play a key role in developing a training framework to support the growth of future Project Managers.
You will report to the Sr. Manager of Project Issue Management.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Drive the resolution of low-complexity, low-impact issues within the LTO project management community by applying structured techniques under the guidance of senior team members. These issues may be tied to specific projects or operate independently of a project. While mentorship and support will be provided, you are expected to make independent decisions on routine matters and escalate more complex challenges.
-
As your experience grows, you may be assigned a mix of low- and medium-complexity issues or assist an Advanced Issue Manager in resolving issues. This progression is designed to build your confidence and autonomy over time.
-
You will operate within a global project environment, requiring collaboration across international teams and time zones. With guidance, you will lead global teams while gradually developing the skills to independently lead such teams. Building relationships with stakeholders across departments will be important to your success.
-
We ask that you be curious and adaptable, while working in a dynamic project setting. Your work will directly impact customer satisfaction by ensuring resolution of issues that could affect project delivery, quality, or performance.
-
Document lessons learned during issue closeout and integrate best practices to improve the Project Issue Management Team's effectiveness and operating model.
-
Support the SPMO and LTO teams in advancing LTO project management through strategic initiatives.
-
Collaborate with the Sr. Project Issue Manager to design, pilot, and refine processes that help develop a project management talent pipeline.
-
Help train new team members on project tools and procedures.
-
Shadow experienced Issue Project Managers/Project Managers to gain exposure to project leadership and stakeholder engagement.
-
Complete required training in Westinghouse systems and procedures relevant to assigned duties.
-
Within 12 months of hire, demonstrate readiness to lead Tier 4 and 5 projects.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
-
2+ years of experience in a technical or engineering role within a technical industry such as engineering, manufacturing, nuclear, or construction.
