Director, Operational Excellence

Your Day to Day

The Operational Excellence Director has overall responsibility to direct personnel related to project controls, contract management and strategic planning. The position is accountable for the oversight of D&D operations and project excellence globally and will coordinate and work directly with D&D Solutions  project managers, EPMO and Global Supply Chain to ensure we deliver our projects safely, efficiently and at the highest quality.

  • Management of project controls personnel in the area of cost, schedule and change management throughout the America and EMEA regions.
  • Ensure effective deployment of project controls personnel to maintain project controls metrics for management oversight of project execution.
  • Establishment and planning of necessary procedure development required to implement processes related to project management controls.
  • Responsible for setting, tracking and development of project controls personnel based on Westinghouse requirements.
  • Strategic development of business planning documents at the direction of BU VP
  • Liaise with the Enterprise Project Management Office to ensure appropriate governance and procedures are applied to the business unit projects and programs.
  • Support enterprise risk and opportunity development working with BU operational directors. Support the management of risks and opportunities by development and implementation of appropriate commercial action plans.
  • Identify areas in projects for margin improvement and work with project teams to implement margin improvement plans
  • Identify project and contract issues impacting project performance and coach project team memebers to implement recovery actions and plans.
  • Engage with Management to allow the most effective control and monitoring of commercial issues for the projects.

 

Travel after Covid:

  • It is expected that travel to the Local (U.S., Europe) offices or Project job sites will be required.    

 

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you’d bring the following to the team:

  • Educated to university degree level BS/BA with course work in one of the following: project management, contract management, business administration, engineering, or finance. 
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience of project management and operational work preferable in a multicultural engineering or construction environment or contact management consulting.
  • Fluent in English, expertise in other European language of distinct advantage
  • Additional language Spanish, Swedish, and German language could be an advantage.

 

Technical skills / competencies

  • Strong operational experience of project controls, including earned value management and change management
  • The ability to assimilate contractual and legal issues quickly and have a solid track record of issue resolution and successful management of claims.

  • A self-confident individual with a strong personality and ability to meet tight deadline and have an analytical mind.
  • Good interpersonal and strong communication skills with a willingness to challenge others.
