About the role:
As a Director - Advanced Reactor Technology, you will lead the strategy and development of Westinghouse's advanced reactor portfolio. This portfolio includes the eVinci™ microreactor, AP300® small modular reactor, licensing projects, Generation IV, and fusion technology development.
You will ensure agreement between advanced reactor development, regulatory readiness, and our long-term technology roadmap—positioning Westinghouse at the forefront of global nuclear energy advancement.
You will report to the Chief Technology Officer, and work a hybrid role located in Cranberry, PA
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic and Technical Leadership
- Develop the vision, strategy, and technical roadmap for Westinghouse's advanced reactor technologies.
- Provide leadership and integration across multiple advanced reactor programs, ensuring cooperation and efficiency in design, R&D, licensing, and commercialization.
- Partner with the CTO and executive leadership to prioritize technology investments, innovation pathways, and partnerships supporting corporate growth and sustainability goals.
- Guide the evolution of advanced reactor architectures to support both domestic and international market demands.
Program Management and Execution
- Oversee program execution for eVinci™, driving progress from prototype through deployment and commercialization.
- Provide strategic oversight of AP300® design, licensing, and delivery readiness to achieve early market deployment.
- Lead licensing projects to accelerate regulatory pathways for advanced and non-traditional reactor designs.
- Advance Generation IV and future nuclear technology concepts through collaboration with global R&D partners, labs, and new ideas.
Innovation and Research
- Champion development in areas such as advanced materials, fuels, digital controls, and modular manufacturing.
- Direct internal R&D efforts and partnerships that strengthen Westinghouse's intellectual property and competitive position.
- Evaluate latest technologies and policy trends to inform strategic decisions on future-generation nuclear systems.
- External Engagement and Influence
Represent Westinghouse's advanced reactor portfolio in external forums with the DOE, NRC, IAEA, research institutions, and global industry partners.
Strengthen collaborative relationships to expand market opportunities, research funding, and policy influence.
Communicate program vision and milestones to senior executives, customers, and public partners, enhancing Westinghouse's leadership reputation in nuclear innovation. People and Organizational Leadership
Develop, and inspire a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and program managers.
Ensure succession planning and team capability development to sustain long-term growth and leadership capacity.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline; Ph.D..
- 15+ years of progressive experience in nuclear technology development, licensing, or advanced reactor programs.
- Record leading complex, multi-year technology or R&D programs within the nuclear energy industry.
- Understanding of NRC regulatory processes, international licensing frameworks, and reactor design principles.
- Experience with small modular or microreactor technologies.
- Background in digital engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), or AI integration in design and operations.
- Recognized expert in advanced nuclear technologies and future energy systems.
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $162,000 to $202,500 per year. In addition to the base pay, this role may be eligible for incentive pay based on company and individual performance.
