The Manufacturing Engineering organization is a newly formed central group within Global Manufacturing (GMFG)

 

About the role:

As a Director Manufacturing Engineering you will lead this group in developing excellence in manufacturing execution (throughput, quality, productivity, on-time delivery) through digital, automation and other engineering efforts and through development and deployment of standards.  The role also includes strategic cost reduction strategies, engineering leadership in solving manufacturing problems whether it be for legacy or new processes, and identification of needed CAPEX investment.  We are looking for partnerships with manufacturing sites, QEHS, CAPEX, manufacturing strategy, and innovation groups. It is envisioned that digital, automation and manufacturing engineers and managers of multiple levels will report to this position.  Global travel is required.

 

You will report to the Senior Director, Global Operating Services and support the position 100% remotely with 30-40% global travel required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies for optimizing and streamlining manufacturing operations in partnership with manufacturing sites and other functional leads.  This includes approaches for continuous improvement and strategic cost reduction strategies for all processes.

  • Partner with Global Quality and manufacturing sites to increase the capability of manufacturing processes to produce quality products by preventing defects and eliminating waste.  Identify opportunities and gaps, develop strategies, and complete resulting initiatives.

  • Support new process development by providing feedback to the manufacturing strategy.  This may include determining manufacturing methods and equipment strategy, applying state-of-the-art technology in relevant manufacturing processes, identifying use points between plants, and optimizing growth CAPEX needed.

  • Lead product line optimization through employing Smart Manufacturing (digital and automation) technologies, streamlining flow paths, and identifying needed equipment upgrades and new manufacturing capabilities.  Develop business case for needed investment or expenditure.

  • Develop a digital and automation strategy for manufacturing which enables our goals.  Translate the strategy to roadmaps.  Develop understanding and commitment among partners through building strategic partnerships and collaboration.  Give direction to current state assessment and gap/risk identification, target state development, options analysis and alternative evaluation, and business case development. 

  • Partner with manufacturing sites and functional leaders to create and deploy standards for digitization, automation and equipment technology

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in sensors and controls engineering, automation, Industry 4.0 technologies, MES and business systems. 

  • Partner across organizations to develop a methodology for manufacturing process monitoring and visual signals which increase the capability to produce quality products.

  • Develop manufacturing networks across sites for best practices sharing and connectivity in troubleshooting

  • Build a world-class team; recruit, develop, engage and retain talent.

  • Metrics Accountability – Safety & EHS, Delivery, Quality, Cost, Cost Out, Skills Deployment, Employee Engagement, Corrective Action Completion.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical degree in a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years in operations, engineering, smart manufacturing, quality, or program management with demonstrated experience in manufacturing process development and optimization.  Minimum 2 years of experience in the nuclear or related energy industry.

  • Certified Six-Sigma Black Belt or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (SME CMfgE) or PMI certification.

  • Initiative, by collaboration and ability to have a global influence.

  • Program Management, Problem Solving, Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing, Quality Systems, Digital and Automation technology.  

  • Drive improvements and measurable results in a global manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated program management and continuous improvement skills
