The Global Indirect Category Manager is the SME for their category and is accountable for all sourcing strategies and implementation for defined global categories supporting Westinghouse’s business units.

Global Category Manager will develop alternative sources, including low cost countries, and leverage category spend globally, with a focus on cost efficiencies, product quality, innovation and the most effective supply chain models to service this business model by leveraging the world-wide supplier market for materials & components. 

A key success factor is being able to clearly articulate the category vision and having strong influencing skills.  Global Category Managers will be a key contributor to supply chain’s strategic goals. Responsible for working with cross-functional stakeholders to support and deliver the best value in product selection, performance, quality, service, and price.


Your Day to Day:

  • Develop and lead strategic sourcing activities for assigned indirect global categories
  • Effectively achieve optimal total cost of ownership and manage supplier risk, while meeting business stakeholders' requirements
  • Delivers excellence in procurement activities including: spend analytics, strategy development, negotiations, and stakeholder engagement
  • Plan and deliver desired business results (including savings for annual and multi-year savings goals) and spend strategies for assigned categories
  • Develop and execute all aspects of the Westinghouse Category Management Process including supplier management, risk management, contract management, lean supply, total cost of ownership and service improvement  
  • Create and drive annual and multi-year category strategies
  • Plan and execute life-cycle supply strategies while optimizing forecasted shifts in both supply markets, industry trends and supplier economic cycles
  • Manage spend supply requirements through strong market and competitive analysis, creation of leverage and professional negotiations to secure the best cost, quality and service to meet business needs.
  • Perform data analysis to understand historical and projected spend and market insights
  • Use tools and techniques to profile, benchmark, research, and assess supply chain risks and trends to ensure security of supply.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary category team (Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, etc.) to drive cost reduction & process improvement initiatives consistent with Company, Business Unit and Site goals and objectives (KPIs).
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gain full alignment in business objectives.
  • Align with internal stakeholders to identify savings targets and delivery requirements
  • Work closely with Supply Chain Operations (Buyers) and Material Planning organization to ensure alignment and effective execution of the agreed category strategies.
  • Initiate and lead RFP/RFQ bids and analysis, supplier evaluation, supplier qualification, supplier selection, contract development/execution and negotiations.
  • Perform supplier relationship management including the tracking of service level agreements and KPIs. Recognize and appropriate act upon supplier development opportunities.
  • Continuously seek out opportunities to further improve bottom-line company performance through strategic sourcing projects, supplier inventory management, supplier communications and quality, payment terms, value stream mapping, supply chain optimization and continuous improvement projects with suppliers
  • Effectively execute change management initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of applicable export control regulations to ensure compliance


Skills needed to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of supply chain experience; 5 years of category lead experience; global category management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Strong decision making, problem solving and project management skills
  • Strong data analytic skills
  • Knowledge of contractual terms and conditions (e.g. indemnification, intellectual property, force majeure)
  • Proven experience and knowledge of global category management
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to break down barriers
  • Flexible and responsive to change
  • Clear understanding of enterprise wide ERP systems (SAP/Ariba)
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Procure to Pay process
  • Proven experience leading global projects to desired outcomes, including working outside of domicile country
  • Culturally aware
  • Proven strong emotional intelligence to guide thinking and behavior
  • Living in foreign countries is a plus
