The Internship Experience

As an Industrial Hygiene intern, your day to day will be dynamic, fast-paced and engaging.  You will have opportunities for:

Your contributions will directly contribute to maintaining a safe and healthful work environment and mitigating industrial hygiene impacts, both tactically and strategically.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of industrial hygiene standards and programs.
  • Participate in EHS team meetings; regularly present on industrial hygiene topics and project progress.
  • Contribute to problem solving with cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and make recommendations for mitigations.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in potential exposure investigations to identify causes and corrective actions.
  • Work as part of an inspection or audit team.
  • Develop safety briefs, training materials and provide training to improve EHS knowledge.
  • Analyze data, suggest corrective actions, develop reports.

 

Qualifications:

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or similar.
    • Completion of occupational safety, environmental or industrial hygiene coursework is required, minimum of 2 years of study completed preferred.
    • Some experience with safety regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, standard computer applications.
  • Ability to function in a constantly evolving environment and balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to use diverse resources, respond quickly, understand the impact of changes and decisions, facilitate agreement, and build collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to function in a constantly evolving environment and balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Reliable transportation for commuting to and from work locations (<50 miles).
  • Willingness/ability to travel to other Westinghouse locations.
