Your Day to Day

The Waste Management group is part of the Global Engineering Services Organization and provides various technical services and engineering support for safe and reliable solutions for the nuclear backend. Typical work includes the design and supply of radwaste treatment facilities and components, such as evaporators, dryers, cementation & grouting systems, and super-compactors as well as interfaces with the nuclear island, and engineering and execution of dismantling operations for shutdown nuclear reactors.


The SRTF Lead Engineer will take the role of a Technical Leader for international offers and projects, including marketing Westinghouse skills and products, evaluation of customer requests and specifications, and selection of technologies to match customer needs.


The SRTF Lead Engineer will also contribute to technology development and improvements.


In this role he/she will be reporting to the Waste Management group manager.



  • Technical Lead
    • Leadership and global coordination during preparation of multi-country proposals (work package definition, coordination of technical descriptions, scheduling, calculation of efforts)
    • Leadership in designing new products, processes, components, or portions of a functional system as part of a broader engineering solution
    • Research the ease of manufacture and may prepare cost studies for assigned systems, structures, and components
    • Drive continuous improvement and recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products, processes, and/or procedures, and contributes to development of new methods and processes, as well as their introduction
    • Leadership in conceptual design studies and basic engineering for new SRTFs worldwide including AP1000 and other non-Westinghouse new builds as well as Waste Treatment Centers for nuclear power plants in decommissioning status
    • Support the Waste Management group interface with Westinghouse Government Services, as well as the interface with some other GES discipline like fluid system design and chemical engineering
    • Contribute to the WM group interactions with Canadian market
  • Team Lead
    • Depending on the growth and business need, the Lead Engineer could be expected in the future to:
      • Manage & lead a small engineering team (mentoring, training, time entries, issue resolution, etc.)
      • Support the WM group manager in workload planning and resource assignments

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you’d bring the following to the team:

  • In depth knowledge about waste management solutions
  • Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities
  • Extensive engineering and licensing knowledge and is capable to lead engineering efforts on a project at the discipline level
  • Work highly independent, capability of not only mentoring engineers, but also the capability of effectively leading a team of engineers in the execution of complex tasks
  • About 10+ years of related experience
