The Linux Administrator intern plays a role in managing and maintaining Linux-based systems within Westinghouse. They will assist in ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of Linux servers. The Linux Administrator intern collaborates with the IT team to handle Linux-based infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to users.

 

Junior or Seniors pursuing a degree in Information Systems are encouraged to apply.

 

This role is located at Westinghouse global headquarters in Cranberry, PA.

Famiiartiy with the Linux Administrator responsibilities below is preferred:

 

  1. Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software.
  2. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of Linux-based infrastructure.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement Linux-based solutions that meet business needs.
  4. Implement and maintain security measures to protect Linux systems from unauthorized access and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  5. Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures to minimize data loss and maintain business continuity.
  6. Automate system administrative tasks using scripting languages such as Bash or Python to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  7. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure proper system security and data integrity.
  8. Install, configure, and maintain network services, including DNS, DHCP, and LDAP.
  9. Collaborate with software developers and system analysts to troubleshoot and resolve software compatibility issues on Linux platforms.
  10. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades to improve system performance and scalability.

 

Linux Administrator Required Skills

  1. Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu, SLES, or Red Hat.
  2. Proficient in Linux command-line interface (CLI) and shell scripting.
  3. Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or KVM.
  4. Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and services, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and VPN.
  5. Knowledge of storage technologies, such as RAID, SAN, and NAS.
  6. Understanding of security best practices and experience in implementing security measures on Linux systems.
