Your Day-to-Day:

  • Perform and lead others in the design and analyses for the repair, modification and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of Westinghouse designed nuclear power plants including current operating fleet, AP1000 and/or eVinci microreactor.
  • Use of analysis tools, such as finite element simulations (ex. Ansys) and hand calculations to qualify component design. 
  • Drive and/or execute component qualifications through ASME BPV code methodologies and criteria leveraging design by analysis supported by component testing programs.
  • Work with other component, system, and manufacturing leads on the integration of the subsystems and work through emergent design issues.
  • Work with project managers and subsystem/component leads to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Lead complex technical projects, coordinating multi-functional teams to accomplish project objectives while meeting established schedule and budget requirements.
  • Identify and define technical issues, risks and challenges, direct efforts to successful resolution.
  • Bring engineering rigor to resolution of problems that are sometimes loosely, or only partially, defined, requiring knowledge and experience within given discipline.
  • Provide continued mentorship of these engineers throughout tenure in the department.
  • Incorporate the use of industry, regulatory, or NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to nuclear reactors in design activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction, and collaborate with other personnel including partners such as national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers. 
  • Support plant refueling outages (both on-site and remotely) including stretches of 12-hour shift work and overnight work because of time sensitivity
  • Adaptable and flexible to changes in strategy, market, design, or manufacturing.
  • Strong ownership mentality to hold yourself accountable for delivery of high-quality engineering or physical material products.


Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or Aerospace Engineering (MS preferred).  Alternate degrees such as nuclear engineering, structural engineering, or materials science, etc. will be considered with component design experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of applicable experience required; 10 plus years preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in system and component level design
  • Familiarity with advanced reactor technology and designs preferred
  • Licensed professional engineer preferred
  • Significant experience in a technical leadership role preferred, working autonomously as an individual contributor or leading a small technical team – with aspects of design, analysis, and manufacturing
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience required or 4 with an advanced degree
