Senior Engagement Manager, Strategy

Currently reporting to VP, Global Head of Corporate Development and Strategy, the Senior Engagement Manager, Strategy will work closely with Westinghouse’s BU Presidents, their staff, Digital and Innovation leaders, Product Managers, and other Business Unit and functional stakeholders to accomplish the following:

  • Drive leadership position for Westinghouse helping achieve growth and total shareholder return aspirations
  • Lead and help the Business Units and Segments develop strategies that drive above-market organic and inorganic growth, working closely with BU leadership to ensure both cross-functional involvement and real-time input as the external environment (e.g., technology, customer needs, regulations, competitors, etc.) evolves. 
  • Identify new growth platforms, growth opportunities within business units, and across businesses – through the identification of attractive market spaces, determining what it takes to win, assessing competitive position and business models, and then helping the organizing to align on the strategic direction and execution plan
  • Ensure that the business strategies clearly articulate the business choices, are well-defined, lay out talent and resource requirements, and are implementable. Successful strategy delivery should result in industry-leading growth and profit margins. Work-products support key choices and decisions made by our CEO and his staff.  Produce high visibility materials to be utilized in presentations to our Board of Directors.
  • Identify, synthesize, and communicate key trends across industries, segments, regions and competitors.
  • Support and execute the strategic planning process byworking collaboratively to support and execute the development of robust work products in a timely manner. 
  • Delicately balance driving accountability among senior colleagues in a matrix reporting environment, while being collaboratively supportive throughout the development of the materials. 

 

In addition to leading growth initiatives and supporting the annual strategic planning cycle, this role will also:

  • Lead and support detailed assessments of various strategic, growth, industry, and market assessment topics of interest to WEC Staff and to VP, Global Head of Corporate Development and Strategy.  Capabilities to rapidly develop the initial hypothesis, approach and structure to address the questions, identify appropriate information sources, identify facts of relevance, synthesize conclusions, and present them thoughtfully to drive decisions and actions, are all essential elements of the competency set for success in this role
  • Profile, monitor and report on key competitors
  • Monitor and report M&A activities in industries and segments of interest to Westinghouse

This role will be located at our Cranberry Township, PA headquarters or remote.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Lead the identification and assessment of strategic growth opportunities in collaboration with the executive team, Business Unit leaders and their staff. 
  • Lead cross functional teams of leaders, for the development and delivery of high-quality strategic assessments and plans
  • Lead in-depth competitor analysis exercises with key stakeholders across Westinghouse
  • Support Westinghouse’s owners in their evaluation of new and existing markets, technologies, and acquisitions
  • Work collaboratively with talented colleagues within and outside of the Strategy function so that expertise and business knowledge across the company can be utilized and incorporated into assessments
  • Collaborate with Corporate Development team to determine and decide on the strategic fit for targeted acquisitions
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, dynamics, and their impacts to Westinghouse
  • Report out to executive management on market implications, strategic assessments, and overall strategic planning process milestones
  • Support the annual Enterprise Strategic Planning process for Westinghouse and its subsidiaries to form the underpinning for Westinghouse’s five-year plan

 

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  • 7 or more years of cumulative business experience, including 2-3 years post-MBA at a major top tier Management Consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, or Bain) and 1-2 years of full-time strategy experience in a Fortune 500 company. Preference for experience in manufacturing, energy, or utility industry.  In addition, a couple of years of experience in engineering or product management or operations or commercial is preferable. 
  • Individual should be a strategy practitioner well versed in the theory and tools of strategy formulation as well as the practical implementation of strategy within a complex organization.
  • Well-honed understanding of the key levers to deliver superior and consistent total shareholder return (TSR), and significant project experience pulling these levers
  • Operational track record of dealing with strategic business issues including microeconomics, industry structure, operations strategy, and finance
  • Familiarity with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle – with experience applying these skills in managing large teams and leading complex projects
  • International experience is a plus but is not required.
  • A desire to drive a leadership position for Westinghouse towards a carbon free grid of the future
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or relevant subjects 
  • MBA or equivalent from a top program
