The Senior Industrial Safety Specialist is a support role in the GOS Environmental, Health and Safety organization that implements governance and provides day to day EHS support for Global Operations Services Facilities. This position is accountable leading / participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of GOS EHS programs, tools and standards, including training and communication in a manner that ensures compliance to regulatory and internal requirements as well as business needs for assigned sites.  This role supports the Manager, GOS Safety and Health. Key to this role is building and maintaining strong relationships with onsite teams in driving the use of best-in-class methods to achieve compliance to Westinghouse’s rigorous EHS expectations.  The ability to effectively engage, persuade and communicate information, ideas and requirements is paramount to this role’s success.  

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Provide technical assistance and support for EHS issues within assigned areas, collaborating with internal and external resources to ensure effective support.
  • Serve as point of contact for EHS issues and events.
  • Develop and implement site-specific EHS policies and procedures at assigned sites.  Drive compliance to internal processes and EHS policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training at assigned sites.
  • Track the implementation of EHS policies, procedures, training and risk assessments at assigned sites.
  • Track completion of and assist sites in completing global event reports, EHS CAP issues and EHS audit findings in a timely manner.
  • Track targets against EHS improvement plans and strategic objectives at assigned sites.
  • Prepare and submit required EHS reporting for assigned sites.  Assist sites with internal reporting, as needed.
  • Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, regulations, and events within assigned areas.
  • Lead / participate in incident investigations or reviews.
  • Facilitate the development and sharing of EHS learning (including operating experience, lessons learned and best practices).   
  • Conduct / facilitate EHS inspections, audits and assessments and identify, implement or partner with sites and business functions to implement effective corrections and controls. 
  • Identify, analyze, and present data related to EHS to support monitoring and measuring to drive improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes EHS awareness though effective employee communications, participation, and programming.
  • Interface with Facilities, Security and HR for issues that may affect the EHS programs at assigned GOS sites.
  • Participate in EHS compliance and EHS management system audits.

This role requires onsite work at Western Pennsylvania sites on a prescribed basis.  Candidate must be located in the Western Pennsylvania area. Nonlocal travel is 10-25%, including international travel.

Must be able to pass requirements for access to US and EMEA nuclear facilities.

 

Who You Are:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Safety /EHS Engineering/EHS Management/EHS Sciences or similar.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in industrial environments.
  • GSP / ASP or equivalent certifications (s), preferred.  Maintain GSP / ASP until minimum requirements are met for CSP.  Obtain CSP credential within one (1) year of becoming eligible.
  • Knowledgeable of low and moderate risk EHS regulations
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, effective decision-making in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities with a global and business-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing including the ability to effectively present information to workers and leadership.
  • Ability to prepare moderately technical EHS documents.
  • Highly knowledgeable in the methods used for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Strong ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
  • Must be able to comprehend, analyze and interpret safety, health and production documents.
  • Requires strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong ability and flexibility to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to influence and effectively partner with others.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and personal computer skills (required).
  • Knowledgeable of behavior-based safety principles and EHS management systems.

This role requires travel 10-25% of time, including internationally.
