Sr. Design to Value Cost Engineer

Exciting opportunity to be part of developing and deploying a brand new, company-wide Design to Value (DtV) program.  As a member of the Design-to-Value Core team, will be part of GOS team and reporting to the Director of Design to Value.  The DtV Core team is responsible for driving competitiveness improvement of WEC offerings by the deployment of the Design to Value methodology, resulting in steady increase of the offering margin. Design-to-Value is a multidimensional, cross-functional approach which allows to identify cost and value drivers with the final goal to have products with the right features required by the customers at the market-based cost.

 

The Design to Value Cost Engineer will: Perform cost breakdown analyses for active Design to Value projects.  Analyze and build representative cost models to identify key cost drivers and target areas for improvement.  Perform parametric should-cost modelling to identify possible design modifications.  Effectively summarize analytical findings to internal and external cross-functional teams.  Facilitate large, cross-functional workshops to elicit improvement ideas.  Build project idea business cases and can track improvement projects with extended DtV team members.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Cost Analysis:  Able to effectively access and disseminate cost data from various WEC cost systems.  Perform cost breakdowns to identify key cost drivers and be able to effectively summarize for diverse cross-functional teams.  
  • Cost Modelling and Supplier Analysis: Able to effectively use parametric cost modelling tools (like SEER) to develop should-cost models to explore design alternatives and their impact to product cost.  Perform Excel-based analysis functions, like Linear Price Performance and Price History Analysis.  Also need to disseminate key take-aways from cost modelling and analysis work to partners in engineering and supply chain and suppliers.
  • Design to Value Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate the cost analysis portions of internal and external Design to Value Workshops.  Ability to clearly prepare and present conclusions to large groups in a workshop setting and to facilitate idea generation.  
  • Savings Tracking: Work with extended DtV teams on business case creation and impact reporting.  Define impact criteria, develop and track detailed action plans for project implementation with extended teams.
  • Develop training materials: Develop instructional materials for extended Design to Value team members about how to perform cost-related baselining tasks and preparation steps for baselining, idea generation, and idea maturation tasks.

 

A successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline
  • 8 plus years of progressive cost engineering, design engineering, manufacturing, and/or supply chain experience or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Westinghouse, products and services, cost systems, and history of driving cost-related improvement projects
  • Must have Strong Excel and Analytical Skills and experience 
  • Experience with solid modelling programs and ability to create and manipulate models for should-costing.
  • Experience with SEER or other parametric cost modelling software
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo
  • Prior Design to Value or VA/VE experience a plus.
