About the role:
As a Principal Nuclear Engineer you will provide miscellaneous plant support functions to support the operations of Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station (WCGS) in fulfillment of the Core Design & Safety Analysis (CDSA) function outsourcing arrangement between the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Company and Westinghouse Electric Company. These responsibilities require knowledge of WCGS’s in-house safety analyses, acquiring and maintaining the necessary qualifications in WCGS procedures and processes, and extensive knowledge of the Westinghouse safety analyses to be used to support the operation of the WCGS. A secondary focus will entail the provision of transient analyses, as assigned, to support other Westinghouse customers.
You will report to the Manager, Integrated Site Engineering and be located on a hybrid basis at Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Burlington, KS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform safety analysis engineering efforts at Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS). This involves performing complex engineering design and analyses in the commercial nuclear industry and providing technical input and written documents supporting the design, development, training, performance, and delivery of technical products and services.
- Effectively define, implement, and drive projects to successful completion.
- Initially, primary focus will be supporting the successful transition of the WCNOC core design and safety analysis methodology to Westinghouse methodology.
- Directly responsible for daily overall WCNOC customer satisfaction in the area of fuel reload design and support.
- Support resolution of emergent plant issues.
- Provide periodic updates and recommendations regarding the nature and status of work/projects to all appropriate internal and external personnel. Develop and deliver presentations to communicate statuses, problem resolutions, recommendations, or promote business-related products.
- Provide expert knowledge within specific engineering discipline to peers, vendors, and customers.
- Develop procedures, processes, and methods for implementing technical requirements.
- Activities not limited to Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS); will also be required to apply engineering analysis (transient analysis, setpoints analysis, containment analysis, etc.) to other plants under the Westinghouse QA program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Sufficient experience and logic/problem-solving capabilities to apply advanced engineering principles and techniques to propose, direct, and integrate solutions to highly complex (possibly system level), loosely defined technical problems and to identify direct approaches for the successful resolution of significant technical issues.
- Ability to perform assigned analyses related to the delivery of fuel reloads including fuel core and thermal hydraulic design, Chapter 15 LOCA, non-LOCA and containment transient analysis.
- Ability to obtain unescorted access.
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
