Title: Mechanical Engineer II – Space Applications
If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Space Applications located in Etna, PA, US. Hybrid work arrangement available. Possibility of remote role for an exceptionally well qualified candidate.
Your Day-to-Day:
• Perform mechanical and thermal analysis on Space Nuclear Power (SNP) systems and components
• Design Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) including both active (heaters, fluid loops, etc.) and passive (multi-layer insulation (MLI), coatings, etc.) systems
• Qualify reactor internals components for launch and operation (e.g., structural evaluations including thermal and mechanical stress and fatigue).
• Develop test plans, post-process results, and perform validation of analysis methods
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, customers (NASA, DoD, etc.) partners, and suppliers.
• Perform trade studies to optimize technical and programmatic variables of complex problems.
• Identify, define, and direct the approach for successful resolution of risks, issues, and opportunities.
Who You Are:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of applicable experience.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (Thermal Desktop and ANSYS preferred).
• Demonstrated experience correlating analytical models with experimental test results.
• Proficient in CAD (AutoDesk Inventor & SpaceClaim preferred).
• Strong interpersonal & organizational skills to work effectively on fast paced multi-disciplinary team.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an US Government security clearance.
Desired Skills:
• Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
• Experience developing components and/or systems for spacecraft or launch vehicles.
• Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
• Experience with spacecraft operation, including orbital mechanics
• Familiarity with fluid system and thermal-hydraulic design (pump, valve, heat-exchanger sizing, fluid network analyses, etc.)
• Knowledge of polymer matrix composite (PMC) and/or ceramic matrix composites (CMC)
• Knowledge of standards and specifications within the aerospace industry
