Associate Materials Engineer

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Materials Engineer in our Nuclear Fuel Product Engineering organization. Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel delivers innovative and reliable nuclear fuel products and services to the nuclear industry.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

In this position, a Materials Engineer can expect to be responsible for the following:

*Developing skills and the associated materials engineering knowledge in support of the design and analysis for materials used in the commercial nuclear industry such as uranium dioxide, high temperature nickel-based alloys, zirconium alloys, and stainless and pressure vessel steels.
*Supporting the development of advanced materials for use in future reactor applications while being mentored by experts in a diverse range of material technologies.
*Document engineering work and communicate to all necessary parities the nature and status of work/projects; identify and communicate product/service improvement opportunities to management, develop and conduct plans for evaluations and experiments.
*Propose and initiate test programs as needed and evaluate results.
*Maintain and improve the drawings and specifications for nuclear fuel components and their constituent materials.
*Learn about the interactions between nuclear fuel components, their materials of construction and the interactions between these items and the nuclear operating environment including corrosion and irradiation effects. Apply this knowledge to the analysis and improvement of existing and new fuel products.
*Be trained in the analysis and diagnosis of operating fuel reliability through coolant chemistry and coolant radiochemistry by experts in these topics.
*Support company-sponsored R&D programs.


Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

* Bachelors Degree in Materials Science and Engineering required 
* Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred 
* This position is open to new graduates, prior internships or co-ops in materials related industries, corrosion analysis related experience and hands on experimental work a plus
* Must be able to apply general materials engineering principles and techniques to assist in the investigation, evaluation, and solution finding for operational issues in support of customers and internal manufacturing issues.
* Must be able to quantify and qualify engineering opinions and judgment with calculations and supporting documentation.
