About the role:
As an Engineer I - Materials Examinations and Development you will be part of research team supporting advanced accident tolerant fuels.
You will focus on advanced materials examinations in our global Fuel Materials Innovation team. Our group members are based in the USA and Europe, and we are part of Westinghouse's Fuel Engineering organization.
As a member of our team your main responsibility will be to plan and realize examinations, and develop materials, for fuel assemblies for existing and future nuclear reactors. Our team's focus areas encompass materials for nuclear fuel assemblies, and in particular surface coatings for Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF).
You will report to the Manager - Fuels Material Innovation. This is a hybrid work schedule, and the role is based in Columbia, SC.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be one of our main resources in assuring that we acquire the fuel performance data needed for models and methods development, and licensing of next-generation materials solutions, and your daily activities will include:
- Plan, implement, track and secure the progress in examinations of materials for fuel assemblies for existing and future nuclear reactors.
- Perform analysis of test data and create technical reports documenting the analysis.
- Identify and define technical challenges and guide successful resolution.
- Work with Westinghouse's global team of specialists to assure that the examinations provide the data required for the continued development.
- Develop next-generation fuel assembly materials solutions for existing and future nuclear reactors.
- •Support the licensing of fuel materials and fuel rod performance models and methods.
Qualifications:
- 0+ years of experience
- BSc or MSc in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Enjoy working in challenging projects, both independently and in teams.
