About the Company

Westinghouse is the largest nuclear fuel manufacturer in the USA producing fuel that provides 10% of the nation’s electricity. We are currently developing the next stage of nuclear fuel production capabilities with construction of the Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU+) fuel fabrication facility in Hopkins, South Carolina, within our Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF). This advanced fuel production plant will employ the latest technology in uranium fuel production using up to 8% enriched 235U. The technology to be employed will include Westinghouse’s patented Two Step Dry UF6 to UO2 powder deconversion process and microwave denitrification for converting liquid uranium waste to UO2 powder. The use of LEU+ fuel will extend the fuel cycle of the commercial nuclear fleet from 18 to 24 months, while significantly improving the efficiency and safety of our nuclear fuel fabrication operations.

Job Summary:

The Field Engineer Major Equipment will report directly to the LEU+ Construction Manager and will collaborate closely with the EPC Contractor, Construction Superintendents, Project Engineers, CFFF Maintenance, and LEU+ Engineering to ensure that all major equipment construction / installation work is performed in accordance with the approved engineering plans, drawings and specifications. This role will maintain major equipment construction / installation oversight of the project during construction of the building and installation of the manufacturing process, and during commissioning through turnover to operations.

Your Day-to-Day:

This field position will be responsible for the on-site installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of major equipment for field activities supporting construction of the LEU+ fuel fabrication facility at CFFF. The primary objective is to assist and support the Construction Superintendent and Project Engineer by overseeing the major equipment construction / installation progress, interpreting drawings, and collaborating with the team to address major equipment issues and maintain quality standards.

This is an onsite role which will be located at our CFFF location in Hopkins, SC.

Responsibilities:

•    Must be able to work independently but also succeed as part of the project team.
•    Represent LEU+ Engineering in the field for major equipment construction / installations.
•    Demonstrate an understanding of construction methods, procedures and administrative processes.
•    Oversee the major equipment construction / installation progress, interpreting drawings, and collaborating with the team to stay abreast of major equipment issues and maintain quality standards.
•    Display strong leadership skills.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively provide guidance, direction, and assistance.
•    Coordinate major equipment construction / installation interfaces and inspection activities, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and schedules.
•    Conduct regular jobsite walk-downs to ensure compliance with engineering requirements for assigned discipline.
•    Identify and resolve field issues, process change orders and address other technical issues that arise during construction and installation of major equipment.
•    Participate in design reviews for assigned discipline, as requested.
•    Participate in corrective action, critique and lessons learned activities for assigned discipline to foster problem solving, error prevention, and continual improvement. 
•    Prepare and submit regular reports on project progress, issues, and other relevant information for assigned discipline.
•    Maintain detailed and accurate records of construction activities for assigned discipline, including progress reports, inspection reports, and as-built documentation. 
•    Demonstrate commitment to a safe and injury-free workplace by enforcing safety protocols and addressing potential hazards in the field.
•    Communicate with internal groups. customers, and vendors as necessary to complete work assignments.
•    Review and approve subcontractor work plans and work packages for assigned discipline.
•    Participate in regular jobsite project meetings and inspections as directed by the Construction Superintendent and Project Engineer.

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

•    A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, specializing in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree, is required.
•    A minimum of 7 years discipline related Engineering experience is required, preferably at least 3 years in the nuclear industry.
•    A minimum of 3 years of technical project execution and/or field installation experience is required, preferably as a field engineer or similar role in the nuclear industry.
•    Previous experience in an engineering, procurement and operations environment, preferably in the nuclear industry.
•    Strong understanding of construction methods, procedures and processes.
•    Knowledge of the theories, principles, practice and techniques for designing structures, piping, and supports.
•    Knowledge of rigging and handling practices, the related standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they are applied.
•    Knowledge of construction codes as they apply in the nuclear industry.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
•    Dependable.
•    Problem-solving skills to address technical issues effectively. 
•    Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
•    Desire to exceed customers’ expectations in ways that are aligned to company goals.
•    OSHA 30-hour certification or other equivalent safety certification is highly desirable.
•    Must be able to hold and maintain a Security Clearance at a US Nuclear facility.

Physical Requirements:

•    Requires the ability to occasionally carry / lift up to 50 pounds.
•    Individual must possess full range of motion (i.e., ability to reach, climb, kneel, squat, grasp, bend forwards and backwards, sit, and stand for a minimum 4 hours per day).
•    Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide range of environments.
•    Individual must be able to pass a Westinghouse physical exam, which includes a spirometer for the ability to wear a respirator.
