General Job Function:
Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Manager, this position is responsible for the performance and updates to the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) and supporting documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain current the ISA and supporting documentation such as Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), consequence analyses and Fault Tree accident analyses in accordance with license requirements and records requirements
- Prepare and submit the annual ISA Summary update covering changes to the facility to the NRC in accordance with 10 CFR 70.72 and the site license application
- Led/facilitated process hazards analysis and risk assessments of special nuclear material processes / systems, recommending safety & regulatory compliance improvements.
- Have expertise in the application of ISA controls and management measures for existing equipment and processes
- Perform engineering evaluations related to probabilistic risk assessment/probabilistic safety assessment
- Perform frequency, consequence for chemical and radiological hazards
- Provide ISA input to plant modifications and procedure revisions
- Modeling of internal and external events
- Perform reportability evaluations for ISA control failures
- Champion a strong nuclear safety culture
- Support Emergency Preparedness as a technical resource on the ISA for Emergency Operations Center response activities
Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:
Education Level:
4-year degree or equivalent with a science or engineering emphasis
Years of Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience in nuclear operations, engineering, or nuclear safety-related role
Professional Certification:
None
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles
- Familiar with nuclear fuel facility operations, licensing, and regulations
- Knowledge of PRA tool Risk Spectrum and NUREG / CR-6850
- Experience in conducting PHAs (What IF, HAZOP and Fault Tree accident identification and analysis) is preferred, but not required
- Ability to work through and lead others through issues with uncertainty or ambiguity
- Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and ability to work on cross-functional teams
- Ability to independently establish and implement personal goal and action plans
- Proficient in knowledge and interpretation of ISA requirements in 10 CFR 70 Subpart H is preferred
- Ability to work seamlessly with global team through various communication methods
