About the role:
As a Nuclear Materials Package Engineer you will need to be an accomplished Packaging Engineer with expertise in the safe handling, transport, and storage of fissile nuclear materials. This role is crucial for ensuring regulatory compliance, safety, and operational efficiency at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility. You will be responsible for the forward planning for site radioactive material packaging needs, package asset management, and oversight of maintenance and refurbishment processes to support fuel fabrication and transportation activities.
You will report to the Senior Manager US Transport and be located at Columbia, SC. You will be onsite 100% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintain documents related to fissile material packaging in accordance with NRC, DOT, and international regulatory standards.

Partner with Nuclear Fuel Transport Licensing, Compliance and Package Technology team to ensure compliance with all safety and licensing requirements for the transport and storage of nuclear materials.

Conduct technical reviews and provide recommendations for package design modifications to ensure continued compliance with regulatory changes.

Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of licensed packaging assets, including certifications, inspection schedules, and compliance documents.

Implement asset tracking systems to monitor usage, location, and condition of packaging assets.

Oversee the maintenance, refurbishment, and certification of licensed packaging to ensure they meet required safety and performance standards.

Develop and implement maintenance schedules for fissile material packaging to ensure inspections, repairs, and re-certifications.

Participate in audits and risk assessments related to the handling and packaging of fissile nuclear materials.

Provide technical guidance to plant personnel on the use, storage, and transportation of nuclear materials in licensed packaging.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and contract management teams to ensure packaging is available to meet fuel delivery requirements.

Support project teams in the design and qualification of new packaging solutions for fissile materials.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.

5+ years of experience in packaging engineering, within the nuclear or hazardous materials industry.

Knowledge of NRC, DOT, IAEA, and other relevant regulations governing the transport and packaging of nuclear materials.

Experience with package licensing, certification processes, and asset management.

Conduct safety analyses and risk assessments for packaging and transport scenarios.

Experience in the nuclear fuel cycle, fuel fabrication, or similar highly regulated industries.

Knowledge of fissile materials and containment principles.

Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems for package asset tracking and scheduling.

Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent is a plus.

We may ask you for occasional travel to offsite locations for package inspections or vendor site visits.

You will work in operational environments within a fuel fabrication facility, observing strict safety and security protocols.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
