About the role:

As a Principal Manufacturing Tooling Engineer you will oversee the development, and analysis of complex technical products and systems. Communicate with customers (e. g. area engineer) to understand their needs and help the customer understand their problems, explain methodology, and identify improvements the customer has not requested

You will report to the Manager of Tool Engineering and be located at Columbia, SC. You will support this role 100% onsite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to solutions to the complex aspects of a project or process.

  • Guide cost efficient, high quality technical solutions to stay within project budgets.

  • Obtain a concept of the tooling item for the scope listed in the TDR (Tool Development Request) and develop detailed design for tooling based on the concept.

  • Follow established machine design guidelines and engineering principles.

  • Select the proper material for the tooling item based on application and frequency of use.

  • Create a drawing that defines the tooling item and apply the proper Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles

  • Identify the critical features of the tooling that require an inspection report.

  • Create test plans for lab testing or simulated production runs for new tooling

  • Evaluate the impact of tooling design changes on Safety Significant Controls (SSCs) and Items Relied On For Safety (IROFS).

  • Determine if a tool design change will affect an Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) or Criticality Safety Evaluation (CSE)

  • ENOVIA to support the Tool Engineer Design process.

  • Determine if the new tool is considered non-capital or capital tooling.

  • Evaluate and add new materials to Tooling Engineering Material List, TD000829 (ENOVIA).

  • Perform supplier evaluations for supplier of tooling items and provide the required information (drawings, sketches, specs, procedures, and sole source justification forms) to the supplier and Global Supply Services (GSCS) during the purchase of tooling.

  • Determine the category of tool cleanliness for an MRO tool and provide the correct Cleanliness Control Card for Tooling Procurement, Cleanliness Control, and Handling.

  • Provide oversight to the tooling supplier during fabrication and track supplier performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5 + years of experience

  • Experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
