This will be a remote position 

 

The Manufacturing Process Subject Matter Expert (SME)

  • Stamping is responsible for supporting the SPE activities in component design, commodity strategy, and supplier selection under Executional Excellence tasks (see the diagram at right) for stamping products / processes. 
  • The Stamping SME will be the go-to resource across WEC for stamping process development in our Supply Chain and will be part of a large matrixed Team / Council to leverage the Manufacturing talent and knowledge across our WEC manufacturing sites and functional teams.

The primary responsibilities of the Stamping SME are

  • Serve as the metal stamping SME within our supply base and WEC
  • Maintain industry leading stamping knowledge through training, research process councils, etc
  • Drive continuous improvement with our stamping suppliers through supplier evaluations and flawless launch processes, using discipline problem solving approaches
  • Mentor and train the members of the GSE teams on stamping processes
  • Lead complex stamping Issue Recovery efforts. 
  • Maintain a close relationship with his/her peers in the GSE teams to share best practices, drive process standardization, and coordinate on global cost-out and continuous improvement projects that require SME support.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (in the order of priority):

  • Acts as a Metal Stamping Subject Matter Expert for SPE in New Product Design & Development, Supplier Selection, and Supplier Development.  Leads cross-functional teams on product/process development, manufacturing feasibility development of stamped component designs, and major issues resolution at supplier locations globally.
  • Add value through Cost-Out / Cost-Avoidance – Identifies process improvements at our suppliers that eliminate waste, reduce cycle time, improve throughput, reduce cost-of-poor quality etc.     
  • Support development of SPE – Mentor / train SPE resources on stamping processes, operations, issues, die design, etc
  • Maintaining Strong Customer/Cross-functional Relationships – Build effective working-level relationships with leaders from all WEC Functions that impact stamping processes - Manufacturing, Assembly, Production, Inspection, etc.  This includes Innovation, Flawless Launch (DTV), Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, SIOP, Quality, Product Managers, etc.
  • Delivering Financial Objectives – Support Global Manufacturing & Operations Process Excellence team to deliver $0.5M - $1.0M annual clearance.  Support delivering $0.2M - $5M of annual cost out.

Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 years Manufacturing Engineering experience in stamping processes (Transfer, Progressive, Deep Drawn, and Fine Blanking, etc.) including tool and die design, stamping industry design standards and stamping press operation.  Minimum 5-years of experience in the nuclear or related energy industry.
  • Professional Certifications: Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) or equivalent experience and a development plan to pursue
