This position is 100% on site at our Hopkins, SC facility located near Columbia, SC.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Be an individual contributor in a dynamic Product Assurance Engineering team which contains quality professionals with a range of experience and expertise that support the varied manufacturing operations at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility. Manufacturing processes at the site include: Continuous chemical operations, analytical services laboratories, powder handling and pressing, sintering, welding, machining, cleaning operations, coating, non-destructive testing, manual as well as automated dimensional inspection processes, in-house Tool and Gage calibration services, human visual inspection, automated visual inspection systems, receiving and inspections of sub-supplied components or services, applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence, manual assembly processes, semi-automated assembly processes, and recovery/recycling services.
- Collaborate with other engineers in the Columbia Product Assurance Team as well as professionals from other Westinghouse manufacturing locations, Westinghouse Product Design and Westinghouse Supply Chain to address complex Quality issues that arise in the course of manufacturing products at the Columbia site, or which impact products at the site or previously delivered to Customers.
- Actively monitor available process, inspection, nonconformance and corrective action process data to identify quality trends. Promote proactive solutions and process improvements to prevent product nonconformities from happening. Lead, where needed, the development of automated inspection systems or streamlined data collection to make quality trends evident.
- Identify product nonconformances or safety/environmental hazards in operational areas where assigned. Work as team member with cognizant operations personnel to identify, implement and monitor corrective actions.
- Work with Westinghouse Supply Chain Management to identify and address issues with the quality of supplied products and trends in supplier performance to assure best cost/value for procured products and services. Develop Columbia Site receiving inspection procedures and strategies which make the most effective use of in-house receiving inspection resources.
- Support new nuclear fuel product design activities by providing quality engineering feedback regarding new product requirements (e.g. manufacturability, ease of inspection). Interpret product drawings and specification requirements into new or revised product inspection instructions.
- Develop inspection processes and procedures, including the selection of the appropriate equipment, gages, measurement methods and accuracies to meet product design and customer requirements. Provide oversight of the development of software associated with inspection systems. Perform and document the necessary independent verification and validation to accept controlled inspection software which will be used for product acceptance or as part of the calibration of QC controlled tools and gages.
- Participate as a team member on major capital investment projects which will install new process or inspection equipment or otherwise upgrade manufacturing plant systems which affect quality. Monitor project progress and provide solutions that will result in maintaining acceptable product quality while also achieving established budgetary and schedule constraints.
- Stay abreast of changes in industry standards as well as the Westinghouse Quality Management System and higher level procedures in order to flow down necessary changes to site quality program implementing procedures and practices. Propose changes to the quality program and administrative procedures as needed based on lessons learned or corrective actions. Communicate to the site and train colleagues on quality programmatic changes as applicable.
- Coach, mentor and enable the success of Quality Assurance technicians, inspectors and other engineers in topic areas related to your assigned area of responsibility or your particular expertise.
Who You Are:

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Science, or technical degree
- 0-3 years experience
