Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC) is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Safeguard Specialists to join our Global Nuclear Safeguards (GNS) team in sustaining WEC efforts to support the global nonproliferation regime and regulatory compliance.

 

The GNS Professional Development Program (PDP) program is a three-year program to train individuals in GNS roles related to domestic (state-level) and international (IAEA) nuclear material control and accounting (MC&A) requirements while supporting Global Operations Services Manufacturing at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) in South Carolina, US; Springfields Fuels Limited Facility (SFL) in Preston, UK; and the Westinghouse Electric Sweden (WSE) Fuel Manufacturing facility in Västerås, Sweden.

 

GNS fellows will have three, one-year rotations at two of the three locations around the world to learn and assist with day-to-day activities while completing the requirements of the PDP. GNS Fellows will be mentored by experienced MC&A professionals at the host facility and the Global Nuclear Safeguards group, including Material Control & Accounting subject matter experts. GNS Fellows will interact with chemical laboratory personnel, process engineers, chemical/mechanical operations personnel, and other stakeholders to learn about the facility and its operations and assist with the facility’s safeguards related programs and regulatory compliance requirements. The final PDP rotation for GNS Fellows will be working for a Westinghouse global corporate function to expand their overall skillset through leading efforts to enhance and modernize the safeguards and regulatory compliance programs at the facility of their permanent placement.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Work closely with personnel at your current location, completing duties and tasks as assigned
  • Work closely with the Global Nuclear Safeguards manager, completing tasks and assignments for the Professional Development Program
  • Support facility staff in preparation and information gathering for GNS related regulatory requirements, i.e., data collection, audits, inspections, regulatory interactions, etc.
  • Assist with data analysis, trending, and data visualization
  • Complete a GNS Fellows Project: Work closely with facility management and personnel during the final rotation to identify a project that improves, automates, and/or increases the efficiency of an GNS related program, process, or capability. The GNS Fellow will define the project and expected outcome, evaluate the resource requirements and business case to demonstrate the feasibility of the innovation, and lead in the execution and management of the project.

 

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science preferred.  Candidates with degrees in other applicable business and technical fields such as a physical science or engineering. Graduating seniors in an applicable degree program will also be considered.
  • Ability to work in the United States, Sweden, or United Kingdom and to meet the export control requirements for those countries to work in the nuclear industry
  • Willingness to expatriate
  • Strong mathematical and statistical skills

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and SQL databases.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques such as ordinary least squares regression and ANOVA.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning, statistical analysis, and data modeling techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and cloud computing platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
