2025 Poland Global Nuclear Fuel Engineering Intern Program

Westinghouse is seeking 2025 Fall/Winter Interns for Nuclear Fuel Engineering.
The internship will take place in the Krakow, Poland office, with business trips to the US or Sweden, depending on team allocation.
Your Day-to-Day:
General:
- Develop expertise in the design, construction, operation, and decommissioning of nuclear power plants.
- Grow and develop extensive technical expertise in US and international nuclear markets.
- Work in teams to resolve critical issues impacting the construction and operation of nuclear power plants.
- Develop and maintain an effective business relationship with Westinghouse customers.
- Perform tasks and activities specific to one of the following Nuclear Fuel Engineering departments.
Fuel Engineering Technologies:
- Create and improve methods & software tools for used analysis & design of nuclear fuel
- Implement automated software testing and quality assurance tools to improve accuracy of Westinghouse codes and methods.
- Utilize new statistical tools/modeling to benchmark plant measured to predicted data to refine Westinghouse Software & Methods
- Apply Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel analytical tools for new plant and fuel designs.
Core Engineering:
- Perform standard nuclear design reload calculations by using calculation note templates, following METCOM, guidance from previous cycle calc notes, and consulting with co-authors, functional leads, and mentors.
- Interpret the results and work with independent verifier to produce an archived document in PRIME.
- Perform nuclear design calculations for Westinghouse plant designs, including Reload Safety Analysis Checklist calculations, Nuclear Design Report calculations, and Startup calculations.
Product Engineering:
- Provide engineering design and analysis for nuclear power plants and products, including fuel manufacturing, spent-fuel management, service and maintenance, instrumentation and control, and training.
- Interface with customers, vendors, and other internal functional groups on an engineering level to obtain information necessary to perform work assignments.
- Plan and schedule work to meet assignment requirements.
- Mechanical and Thermal Hydraulic design and analysis of Nuclear Fuel & Components.
EMEA Fuel Engineering:
- Mechanical Design
- As an intern at the department of Mechanical Design your task will be to support with modeling of 3D models of Fuel Assemblies and internal Components in the CAD system CREO as well as create drawings.
- You will also support the team with Product Specifications, that is an input to our fuel fabrication at our fuel factory.
- The department of Mechanical Design produce a high number of technical reports every month, where you will be a contributor.
- For this internship we see that you have previous experience of 3D-modelling, not necessary CREO.
- Nuclear Design
- As an intern working for the Nuclear Design group, you will participate in general tasks related to nuclear and core design analyses. You might also be involved in feasibility studies, or smaller methodology related projects. For this internship, we see that you are close to finalizing your Master of Science degree in nuclear, engineering physics or similar.
Who You Are:
- As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, required.
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA (on 4.0 scale)
- Should be over 18 years of age
- EU citizen
- Needs to be fluent in English and Polish
- Ability to work for 5-6 months from September 2025 – February 2026
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
- Ability to obtain J-1 Visa (not required for EMEA Fuel Engineering)
