The Metal Stamping Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for leading Supply Chain Engineering activities for: metal stamping manufacturability and supply base capabilities input to the design process, metal stamping process development and/or improvement within the supply base, and metal stamping issue resolution.

 

Specific responsibilities of the Stamping SME include: 

  • Supports Product Engineering in the design phase of new products and redesign of existing products to ensure product manufacturability (e.g. Value Analysis/Value Engineering, Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing principles)
  • Works with Product Engineering to ensure the integrity and clarity of engineering drawing requirements and that all expectations are communicated effectively to support suppliers.
  • Works directly with the supplier’s tool designers to develop new and more efficient dies to replace aging tooling.
  • Lead technical assessments of new stamping suppliers for manufacturing capability, capacity, process controls, compliance with applicable regulations, codes & standards, and associated risks.
  • Lead stamping supplier development and qualification activities for new products (e.g., identification of project risks and mitigating actions, managing project schedules, approval of supplier process documents, process capability analyses, measurement system analyses, etc.).
  • Lead stamping cost reduction activities within the supply base. 
  • Lead complex stamping issue recovery efforts.
  • Maintain industry leading stamping knowledge through training, research, process councils, etc.
  • Mentor and train members of the Supplier Performance Engineering teams on metal stamping. 


Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years Manufacturing Engineering experience in stamping processes (Transfer, Progressive, Deep Drawn, and Fine Blanking, etc.) including tool and die design, stamping industry design standards and stamping press operation.  
  • Minimum 5-years of experience in the nuclear or related energy industry (desired)
  • Professional Certifications: Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) or equivalent experience and a development plan to pursue
