The Mechanical Assembly & Fabrication Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for leading Supply Chain Engineering activities for: rough-machined castings and/or forgings manufacturability and supply base capabilities input to the design process, process development and/or improvement within the supply base, and supplier issue resolution.
Specific responsibilities of the Foundry Processes SME include:
- Supports Product Engineering in the design phase of new products and redesign of existing products to ensure product manufacturability (e.g. Value Analysis/Value Engineering, Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing principles)
- Works with Product Engineering to ensure the integrity and clarity of engineering drawing requirements and that all expectations are communicated effectively to support suppliers.
- Works directly with suppliers to develop/qualify processes and to implement and perform process capability analysis (Cpk).
- Lead technical assessments of suppliers for manufacturing capability, capacity, process controls, compliance with applicable regulations, codes & standards, and associated risks.
- Lead supplier development and qualification activities for new products (e.g., identification of project risks and mitigating actions, managing project schedules, approval of supplier process documents, process capability analyses, measurement system analyses, etc.).
- Lead cost reduction activities within the supply base.
- Lead complex issue recovery efforts.
- Maintain industry leading knowledge through training, research, process councils, etc.
- Mentor and train members of the Supplier Performance Engineering teams.
- Lead high-impact product and process-focused projects on complex products and manufacturing and internal processes. Utilizing industry-proven methodologies such as lean and six-sigma.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher in Engineering
- Minimum 10 years Manufacturing Engineering experience in foundry processes, heat treatment, and material failure analysis.
- Manufacturing operations i.e., ASME/AWS welding, machining.
- Minimum 5-years of experience in the nuclear or related energy industry (desired).
- Solid understanding of lean techniques and statistical analysis.
- Experience with non-destructive examinations (PT, MT, UT, RT) and material testing.
- Professional Certifications: Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE), Certified Weld Inspector (CWI), ASNT Level III, or equivalent experience and a development plan to pursue.
