Hazardous Materials Shipping Leader

Location: Waltz Mill, Madison PA


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Be the accountable leader for the shipment and receipt of hazardous materials including radioactive (Class 7) materials as well as hazardous and/or radioactive wastes.
  • Maintain qualification to ship hazardous materials including radioactive materials and waste. 
  • Oversee the development and administration of hazardous materials and waste training to comply with the Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) and Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) requirements.
  • Coordinate with other EHS, radiation protection, logistics and product line resources to meet shipping and receiving commitments.
  • Coordinate the activities of, and provide direction to, a hazardous materials shipping resource.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships to provide supplemental assistance for complex radioactive waste evolutions.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate number of internal and external supplemental resources.


What you bring to be successful in the role:             

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ year of relevant experience
  • Current certifications for 49CFR, IATA and IMDG.
  • Working knowledge of handling, packaging, transporting, staging, and disposition of radioactive material, sources and devices or other similar hazardous materials or wastes.
  • Working knowledge of policies, operations, and programs related to packaging and shipping Class 7 radioactive material or other similar hazardous materials or wastes.
  • Capable of performing radiological surveys, using various radiation and contamination detectors.
  • Experience as a Class 7 Authorized Shipper.
  • Experience with RADMAN computer software.
  • Understanding of maintenance records as they apply to Type A and Type B containers.
  • Experience developing and using waste profiles for disposition of transuranic and low-level radioactive waste.
  • Willingness to work during off-hours and perform emergent shipments at any time.
  • Experience coordinating work between multiple organizations.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and make decisions, solve problems, and exercise good judgment.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive security background check and pass a drug/alcohol screening test.
