Steam Generator Inspection Technician Level 1

 

To provide steam generator field services at remote operating nuclear power plants and service center operations, utilizing high technology service equipment and in a manner reflecting Westinghouse's commitment to the highest level of quality. This position serves a support role for Steam Generator Secondary Side Inspection activities.

 

Your day to day:

 

The Steam Generator Visual Inspection Technician will support both the SG Visual Inspection and Foreign Material Retrieval Service as well as the SG Secondary Side Sludge Lance (Tubesheet Cleaning) Service.  SG visual inspections will require the technician to remotely operate a robotic visual inspection system.  The position will also include using manual visual inspection probes and cameras to locate and/or retrieve potential foreign material. 

Foreign object search and retrieval is a highly specialized service used in the nuclear industry on steam generators.  It is performed in any component in a nuclear power plant where foreign material may have the potential to cause damage to mechanical systems.

 

Secondary Side Inspection/Retrieval Technician Responsibilities:

  • Set up and connect control boxes for audio video system and robotic inspection system.  Direct the running of cables and staging equipment.
  • Lead the installation and set-up of inspection equipment.
  • Perform inspections using manual video inspection probes for Top of Tubesheet, Upper Support Plate, and Steam Drum.
  • Operate the robotic inspection system and audio/visual system.
  • Retrieve foreign material from steam generator using remote tooling.
  • Troubleshoot the equipment and processes associated with secondary side inspections.
  • When required, perform FME monitoring in accordance with approved procedures.

 

What you need to be successful in this role:

This position requires extensive travel (50-70%), maintenance of "Unescorted Access" status, and working with hazardous materials.

High school graduate or the recognized equivalent.  Specific knowledge and training in electrical, electronic, or mechanical curriculum.

0-2 years related experience; machining experience is a plus.  Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.  Years of related experience may be accelerated through demonstration of critical skills.
