About the role:
As a Waste Characterization and Disposal Intern you will provide engineering services for treatment and final storage of radioactive waste.
You will report to the Waste Characterization and Disposal Manager and be located at the Madrid headquarters in San Sebastián de los Reyes. This is a paid internship with a 25-hour work week, eligible for University course credit. This role is hybrid.
Responsibilities:
- Nuclear safety and licensing studies
- production control of waste generation (Quality Assurance process)
- Characterization and acceptance of nuclear waste from operating plants and decommissioning projects
- Define waste acceptance criteria
- Activity calculation and simulation
- Design the conditioning of different radioactive streams
- Audits
- Evaluate radioactive waste conditioning systems and design of new streams
- Perform calculations and prepare calculation reports
- Waste packages activity calculations for storage units, large dimension waste (equipment and components), singular waste
- Coherence activity-dose rate calculations using Microshield code
- Scaling-factors and activity concentrations calculations and definitions
- Radionuclide vectors calculation
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Energy, Physics or Chemical Engineering)
- Knowledge about nuclear waste management systems or nuclear engineering
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Ability to travel to nuclear sites in Spain
