About the role:
As a Lead Welding Engineer, you will be the subject matter expert that supports the development, implementation, and troubleshooting of welding-related requirements and activities for the fabrication, erection, and maintenance of nuclear power plants and associated facilities.
You will report to the PCI President. This is a remote role that can be performed from anywhere in the United States but will support projects based out of our Manning, SC facility. Travel will be required to project locations, both domestic and international.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively within the Welding Engineering group to divide work scopes, technical approach and initiatives to drive successful implementations. A high level of Group interaction is expected.
- Review contracts, design, and regulatory requirements to develop project welding specifications.
- Provide technical input for proposals such as weld metal volumes, code requirements, filler metal types, PWHT/Preheat and WPS/PQR review for costing.
- Provide guidance to fabricators and construction personnel for compliance with project welding requirements.
- Review project documentation including weld maps, detail drawings, and Code Requirements to ensure conformance with project requirements.
- Filler Metal Inventory management includes generating requisitions, interfacing with vendors as well as reviewing and approving filler metals to be provided to projects.
- Participate in constructability and design reviews for the development of Westinghouse technologies.
- Interface with other Engineering disciplines to provide SME Welding Engineering guidance.
- Support the continued development of the Welding Database which houses PQRs and WPSs.
- Aid in the evaluation of weld failures and associate causal analyses.
- Travel to suppliers and vendors for support of welding program activities, assisting vendors in welding related fabrication and technical issues, welding personnel qualification assistance, WPS qualification and documentation requirements.
- Support Audits and address welding related questions and issues presented by ANI, Code, and Regulatory bodies, clients, and internal customers.
- Provide SME support for other WEC entities on welding related issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 7+ years experience as a Welding Engineer or related position
- 5+ years of nuclear-specific related experience in the power plant, shipbuilding, industrial process construction, maintenance, component repair and replacement, applied research and development, and/or manufacturing facility.
- Strong working knowledge ASME Codes including ASME Section II, III, IV, XI, B31.1 and AWS D1.1.
- Experience with the qualification of welders and welding procedures, including parameter development.
- Familiarity with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding processes.
- Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and Welding Program best practices
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $116,800.00 to $146,000.00 per year.
