Position Purpose

Support the end-to-end development and business follow-up of a robotic inspection system designed for demanding industrial and nuclear environments. The system comprises a command station, a mobile robotic platform, the CAMVIS video system, and multiple embedded sensor solutions.


Key Responsibilities and Expected Achievements

  • Capture stakeholder needs and translate them into clear, measurable, and verifiable system requirements.
  • Develop and maintain SysML-based architecture models, including Context Diagrams, Block Definition Diagrams (BDD), Internal Block Diagrams (IBD), and Product Breakdown Structures (PBS).
  • Define, document, and control system interfaces through Interface Control Documents (ICDs) covering mechanical, electrical, data communication, and EMC requirements.
  • Contribute to the mechatronic design of the command station, mobile robot, CAMVIS video chain, and embedded sensor subsystems.
  • Support the integration of heterogeneous subsystems, including video acquisition, lighting systems, robot teleoperation, power distribution, and sensor data acquisition.
  • Establish and maintain end-to-end requirements traceability from stakeholder needs through verification and validation activities.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables, including requirements specifications, design dossiers, test plans, validation reports, and compliance assessments.
  • Participate in Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) monitoring, risk management, action tracking, and project milestone reviews, with increasing responsibility throughout the apprenticeship.

Required Capabilities and Technical Development Objectives

The apprentice will progressively learn to:

  • Apply Systems Engineering principles in accordance with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 across the entire system lifecycle.
  • Formalize requirements using a verifiable structure:
    • SHALL + Action Verb + Object + Measurable Criterion
  • Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML to ensure consistency between needs, functions, architecture, interfaces, components, and verification activities.
  • Understand multidisciplinary engineering domains, including:

 

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electronics
    • Automation and Control
    • Industrial Computing
    • Instrumentation
    • Embedded Sensors

 

  • Apply Verification and Validation (V&V) methodologies, including MAVT/MAQT, inspection, analysis, demonstration, and testing.
  • Assess compliance through documented test evidence, measurement uncertainty evaluation, and clear conformity statements.
  • Communicate effectively through technical reports, engineering reviews, and professional English presentations.
  • Progress from a technical contributor in Year 1 to a co-facilitator in Year 2 and a junior project manager in Year 3.
