As a Chemical Analyst you will perform advanced chemical analyses on metallic materials and metals in aqueous solutions, including bulk metal composition, alloying elements and trace impurities. You will build all analytical activities under validated procedures, accredited methods, and ISO/IEC 17025-compliant data integrity controls that you have validated. The role includes method development, optimization and validation; evaluation of measurement uncertainty; management of analytical raw data and metadata; technical review of results; and leadership in laboratory quality assurance. You will be the technical interface with internal and external partners, auditors and subcontracted laboratories for chemical testing, conformity assessment and continuous improvement.

You will report to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager and be located at Monfalcone, Italy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop analytical procedures for bulk metal composition and trace analysis, including OES/XRF, combustion, and hot extraction. Additionally, develop procedures for metals in aqueous solution after digestion, such as ICP-OES/ICP-MS. Plan and accomplish validation and verification activities. These activities include: accuracy, (repeatability and reproducibility), linearity, range, selectivity, robustness, carryover, LOD/LOQ, and confirmation of metrological traceability using CRMs. Establish and maintain measurement uncertainty budgets appropriate to the application and decision rule, including contributions from sample preparation, calibration and instrument performance. Issue and maintain validation plans, reports, and controlled method documents (SOPs/WIs), including revision control and change impact assessment.
  • Ensure data acquisition, processing and reporting follow controlled procedures, including instrument configuration, audit trails, versioning and traceable calculations. Perform technical review and validation of results, including verification of calibration status, QC compliance, sample integrity, and plausibility checks. Manage secure storage and retrieval of raw data and records, ensuring long-term readability and controlled access. Maintain structured data management via LIMS and validated spreadsheets, applying ALCOA++ principles. Lead investigations and corrective actions for nonconforming work, data integrity events or out-of-spec QC results; implement CAPA and effectiveness checks.
  • Perform advanced chemical analyses using validated procedures, including sample preparation (weighing, digestion, dilution), calibration, and QC verification. Prepare reagents and standards with documented traceability; manage CRMs and reference solutions with proper storage, labeling and expiry control. Implement routine checks and performance verifications, and coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting with service providers. Ensure safe handling of chemicals and waste, including risk assessment, PPE requirements, and compliance with environmental and site rules.
  • Prepare and issue compliant test reports including method identification, traceability, QC status, and measurement uncertainty where applicable. Interpret analytical results for materials characterization, corrosion monitoring, failure analysis and process support; communicate conclusions to partners. Support definition of decision rules and conformity assessment statements consistent with customer and standard requirements.
  • Perform technical evaluation of subcontracted laboratory reports, including method equivalence, uncertainty statements, traceability evidence and QC adequacy. Support supplier qualification and follow-up as chemical-analysis technical expert; contribute to audit preparation and execution. Support internal and external audits (Accreditation bodies, customers) by providing objective evidence for validation, uncertainty, competence and data management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent; and specialization in analytical/inorganic chemistry;
  • 2+ years of experience in ISO/IEC 17025 accredited chemical laboratory;
  • Hands-on experience in both bulk metal analysis and metal analysis in aqueous matrices;
