As a Senior Radiation Protection Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with industrial safety, radiation protection, and environmental requirements within Westinghouse Electric Belgium.
As a member of the QEHS Department, you will be at the forefront of implementing Westinghouse's prevention and safety culture. Working within a multidisciplinary team covering conventional safety, radiation protection, and quality, you will contribute to maintaining compliance of facilities, processes, and working conditions in accordance with regulatory requirements and nuclear industry standards.
This is a hands-on position involving regular work in controlled areas and direct interaction with operational teams, contractors, and site personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Radiation Protection Operations

Perform radiation protection activities in accordance with applicable procedures and regulatory requirements.

Identify, assess, and manage radioactive contamination events.

Determine and document:
- The nature of radioactive substances involved
- Activity levels
- Mass, volumetric, and surface concentrations
- Physico-chemical characteristics

Measure radiation levels and identify the nature of ionizing radiation within controlled areas.

Conduct radiological surveys and monitoring activities to ensure workplace compliance.
Radiological Safety & Monitoring
- Verify that radiation protection equipment, monitoring instruments, and dosimeters are available, functional, and properly used.
- Manage operational dosimetry programs for internal personnel and external contractors.
- Support compliance with radiation exposure monitoring and reporting requirements.
- Perform radiological controls related to the transport of Class 7 dangerous goods within the facility.
Training & Awareness

Train and inform personnel entering controlled areas on:
- Radiation protection requirements
- Specific hazards associated with the work environment
- Emergency and incident response procedures

Promote awareness of radiation protection and industrial safety best practices.

Provide guidance and support to operational teams regarding radiological safety requirements.
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

Actively support Westinghouse Electric Belgium's policies regarding:
- Environmental protection
- Nuclear safety
- Radiation protection
- Occupational health and safety

Participate in maintaining site compliance with applicable regulations and internal standards.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and radiation protection.

Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews when required.
Accountabilities
You will be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with radiation protection regulations and company procedures.
- Supporting the safe operation of controlled areas and radiological activities.
- Protecting personnel, facilities, and the environment from radiological risks.
- Maintaining accurate dosimetry, monitoring, and radiological records.
- Promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
Working Environment
- Work is primarily performed on-site and includes regular activities in controlled nuclear areas.
- Shift work may occasionally be required depending on operational needs.
- This role requires a strong field presence and is not compatible with remote working arrangements.
- Due to nuclear industry requirements, a clean criminal record is mandatory for obtaining required authorizations and qualifications.
