Gettysburg, PA

Your Day-to-Day:

The Hunterstown Generating Station is a modern natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant with a generating capacity of 820 MW. This advanced configuration delivers reliable power generation while minimizing environmental impact through optimized energy use.

Opportunity Summary

The Plant Manager's responsibilities at the Hunterstown Generating Station encompass operations, maintenance, engineering, and facility management, all guided by the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Agreement and other project agreements. Serving as the primary contact with the Owner, the Plant Manager also acts as a community liaison and engages with regulatory agency representatives as directed by the Owner.

Our leaders provide leadership to all Plant personnel, including selecting employees, technically training them, and maintaining their qualifications, while they foster a positive and collaborative environment in a union-represented workforce. The Plant Manager ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and contractual requirements, while enhancing the Plant and Owner's image within the community and the industry.

Your scope of responsibility as Plant Manager includes the following primary responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to all plant personnel, conducting periodic reviews of procedures to ensure understanding of plant goals and industry standards.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and productive workplace culture in a union-represented environment, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements and promoting collaborative labor-management relations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and cultivate a culture of safety awareness among all personnel.
  • Administer the plant's Safety, Operations, Maintenance, NERC Compliance, Administrative, Training, Chemistry, and Environmental QA/QC programs. These programs ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation, including oversight of the three GE 7F.04 combustion turbines.
  • Employ the best techniques, and prudent utility practices to enhance profitability.
  • Develop and implement staffing, training, and qualification plans for all O&M phases, aligning personnel goals with facility and Owner goals. Ensure certification status for all affected operations and maintenance personnel remains current.
  • Determine training goals and employee development needs, providing coaching, career counseling, and professional development opportunities to maintain high employee morale.
  • Manage planned and unplanned plant outages, optimizing schedules to increase production efficiency, minimizing costs, and enhancing profitability.
  • Provide hands-on support for Operations and Maintenance personnel, assisting in equipment problem evaluation, and employing outside resources.
  • Administer project agreements, including the O&M Agreement, energy supply, service, fuel purchase, power sales, and interconnection agreements, ensuring facility compliance.
  • Direct or perform all commercial activities at the plant level, including budgeting, procurement, and administration of major contracts and vendor relationships.
  • Control and manage plant expenditures using budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting methods. Prepare and administer operating and capital budgets following the O&M Agreement, ensuring accurate financial reporting and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and agreements with neighboring landowners. Prepare and submit required environmental and regulatory reports.
  • Be a primary contact with permitting and regulatory agencies and serve as a liaison to the local community, leading activities to enhance the plant's image as a good neighbor.
  • Complete additional special projects and tasks.

Who You Are:

  • We desire a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent, which provides a foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management. We may consider relevant industry or military experience in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
  • We prefer experience as a Plant Manager at a natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation plant.
  • At a minimum, a candidate requires prior experience in a supervisory leadership role where they have overseen and managed technical, supervisory, and hourly personnel at a natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation plant.
  • Technical proficiency in plant operations and maintenance, with the ability to provide hands-on support troubleshooting for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • 1+ years of experience with safety regulations and environmental compliance is important.
  • Solid financial knowledge, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control, has been a valuable asset.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing
