Senior Project Financial Controller (W/M)

The primary role of the Senior Project Financial Controller is to work closely with project managers/PMO to ensure that financial records and project processes run efficiently and compliantly as per established internal/external governance. Duties include monitoring the progress of a project to ensure that it is working within the confines of set deadlines and budget limitations and generating progress reports for senior financial and project management. In addition, the Senior Project Controller is expected to make suggestions for process improvements where required and provide portfolio analytics insights.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (in the order of priority):

  • Serve as the primary project financial lead to manage all aspects of cost and cash flow control for large and complex projects in the EMEA Business Unit.
  • Organize and participate in regular project reviews at different tier levels following overall established WEC governance.
  • Support Project managers monitor their project activities including:
    • Perform Financial/calculation related KPI monitoring and assessments, such as Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) on a monthly basis to evaluate project performance.
    • Continually monitor and evaluate project progress to ensure that it is meeting its budget and milestones, report variances and recommend solutions.
    • Report to the BU CFO and Operations leadership on findings and project status.
  • Oversee Project Budgeting and work closely with project managers to ensure adequacy of costs forecasts with activities as per operating schedules and supply chain/fulfillment dynamics. Provide independent assessment of project risk profile and related contingencies.
  • Generate Project Reports
    • Create and maintain reports addressing all aspects of project development and completion.
    • Present the details of these reports during group or one-on-one meetings with senior finance and project management.
  • Maintain project controls and ensure effective Sarbanes Oxley implementation across all projects.
  • Lead, assist, and coordinate all internal/external Audit related activities linked to projects under direct oversight.
  • Suggest improvements in project processes, present ideas to project managers and Finance, implement and manage changes in the project management cycle as required.
  • Partner with ePMO to establish portfolio monitoring reports providing insightful analytics and conclusions to leadership.

 

 

Requirements

  • Education Level (Degree, Area of Study) – Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, or accounting
  • Years of Experience: 10 or more years of project controls experience or similar financial analysis experience in a project business environment 
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Integrity and compliance mindset. Audit background a plus.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Superior organizational and written/oral communication skills
    • He/she should be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, consistently meet deadlines and possess the ability to work independently
    • Influential skills and customer service oriented: demonstrate the ability to work well with a diverse work group of internal and external stakeholders (i.e. functions, executive managers, customers, subcontractors, consultants, auditors)
    • Energy/industry sector related experience preferred

 

Experience with the following tools is required:

  • Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Project management ERP/software/applications knowledge - experience with SAP preferred
  • Trained on or familiar with project administration software and processes
