Assistant Area Manager

Ensure availability, timeliness, and quality of resources (people and equipment) in support of efficient production. Plan and assign work, implement policies and procedures, and recommend and implement improvement in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions that continuously improve Safety, Quality, on a daily basis with direct oversight of assigned production personnel.

Your Day to Day:

  • Sets priorities for shift operations in alignment with planning schedule and materials availability. Ensures that operational areas are aligned to achieve these priorities
  • Leads and aligns all operations with a consistent message as set by the area manager and plant staff
  • Lead improvement projects and ensure the sustainability of these projects
  • Mentor supervisors and hourly leaders on the consistent application of policies and procedures
  • Sets standards of excellence for the area
  • Coordinate, lead and ensure the safety of the employees and site for non-routine activities such as hot work permits, confined space entry, and new or updated lock out/tag outs
  • Contact and engage technical resources to solve emergent issues
  • Act on behalf of the Area Manager when assigned

What you need to be successful in this role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree business, operations management, engineering, or similar field is preferred. At least 7 years relevant experience may be used in consideration based on proven performance
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership in a manufacturing role is required
  • Ensure customer requirements for product quality and on-time shipments are met
  • Foster a safety and quality conscious environment through the use and reinforcement of Human Performance (HuP) tools
  • Apply analytical skills to production or equipment issues within department and plant-wide to initiate proper corrective action
  • Determine task performance/skill requirements
  • Evaluate employee skill levels, focus training plans on deficiencies, and reinforce employee development and training
  • Collaborate with employees to establish and maintain an organization capable of operating efficiently and effectively in the production, inspection, and shipment of product
  • Handle concerns and issues and attempt to resolve fairly and efficiently
  • Account and approve time in time management systems
  • Manage corrective action processes to ensure problem identification as well as timely and effective resolution
  • Lead special project assignments and perform designated roles
  • Identify and implement process improvements in assigned department
